Lola Book Review
Let me start by saying that I really enjoy crime/mystery/thriller when it comes to TV and movies. For books, I prefer fantasy/sci-fi, historical fiction, and psychological thrillers.
was a nice change of pace from the norm, but I wouldn’t say this thriller was as “gripping” as I had hoped for.
This book tells the story of Lola, covering a few weeks’ time. She’s the leader of a gang — The Crenshaw 6 — and stuck in a triangle of gangs in southern California.
Starting with a bit of drama and a heist gone wrong, Lola encounters difficult situations throughout the story and has to make decisions that put her life on the line.
Another theme of this book is female leadership. Though not a strong theme, it does hint at how others expect the gang to be led by a man.
Does she make herself known as the leader, or does she hide in the shadows?
I must say for Melissa Scrivener Love‘s first novel, it was a good read. I’d read her next one.
