It’s possible to import flight tracks into Fog of World through flightradar24 or FlightAware. flightradar24 is much more powerful, but only subscription members can download track files. You may check their subscription plans if you are interested. This article will focus on downloading flight tracks from FlightAware for free.

Before you download flight tracks, you should know that the accuracy of downloaded tracks would be much worse than flight tracks recorded through professional GPS loggers (GPS chips in smartphones are far from high-end). In downloaded tracks, the distance between two locations is usually longer than 10 or even 20 kilometers.

If you want to record flight tracks by your own devices, make sure you put them near the window and stay away from the engines on the wings. However, newer airplanes like Boeing 787 would block GPS signal entirely, so you have no choice but to download inaccurate tracks from websites.

Now, open the FlightAware website at https://flightaware.com/, and search the flight you are interested.

Find the flight to get the corresponded flight tracks

In the flight page, you need to find the exact flight you took in the Activity Log section firstly.

Then you can see the flight track on the map. To download it, click the View track log button on the bottom-right corner.

The View track log button will open a new web page. Find the Google Earth button to download the KML file. Now you can import the flight track to Fog of World through cloud storages as usual.

Warning! In case you may not be satisfied with the imported flight tracks. Make sure you sync your data with any cloud storage (except iCloud) before importing. That way, you still have a chance to restore your database later.
