Personalizing Connections for All Students
Expect variability, provide support, and personalize the various paths to learning
Recent research has proven that making connections is vital to the learning process. Students need instructional support that allows them to personalize connections based on their prior knowledge and experience. To learn new information, they must make meaningful associations in order to deepen understanding. Since each path is unique, having foundational resources to reach all students is a priority. How is this possible? How can we personalize connections and impact the progression of skill development with the variability present in today’s classrooms?
According to experts studying the science of learning and development, there is a major gap between learning as a brain function and how our traditional education system was designed. One way to support diverse learners (this includes all learners) is by providing high-quality visual resources that are aligned with specific learning objectives. For English Language Learners, this process is even more important. The human brain is not only malleable, but also highly responsive to retrieval and repetition. With the right tools designed to meet students where they are, we can personalize connections, provide support, and build confidence. This process leads to the development of self-agency along their personal educational journeys.
Folio provides educators and students with content-based learning aids (posters, games, lessons, and activities) that are thoughtfully created by teachers and designers in English and Spanish. Content-based instruction creates memorable connections that learners need, and our team of teachers and designers is honored to be a part of the journey.
