Hikaru: Philly’s best kept Sushi secret

I’ve been going to Hikaru for years now. I’m always shocked because it’s never as busy as I think it should be.

The fish is always fresh, selection is always good, and the consistency is always there. The service won’t dazzle you, but that’s not what you’re there for… at least, that’s not what you should be there for.

Hikaru has a selection of delicious rolls, that are heavy on fish, light on rice, and full of flavor.

Some of my personal favorites are:

  • The South Street roll (salmon)
  • The Green River roll (eel)
  • The Sunshine king roll (spicy king crab)

The two primary sushi chefs, Abel and Elario, are friendly and knowledgable, and even willing to put together something completely custom if you ask for it…I know this personally, if you like spicy tuna, ask for the “Monroe Street.”

So, if you want some damn good, nothing flashy, consistently delicious sushi, head over to Hikaru on 2nd right off of South Street.
