Alphabet, the holding company behind Google, is a collection of subsidiary companies with an impressively wide scope of activities. Besides Google, other subsidiaries include Calico, Chronicle, DeepMind, GV, CapitalG, X, Google Fiber, Jigsaw, Sidewalk Labs, and Waymo.

Alphabet was created through a corporate restructuring of Google in 2015. Larry Page, one of the founders of Google became the CEO of the new company and Sundar Pichai replaced him as CEO of Google. The new structure aimed at separating Google’s core business (search, advertising, Gmail, YouTube, Android) from its research projects, artificial intelligence, and life sciences divisions.
