Meet Ludo Briët

Hey, Ludo.

What’s your role at Fonk?

Product Owner. With sprinkles of Management, Operations, Finance, Strategy, HR, Development aaaand just about everything else. Just no Design though, please — no.

What’s your favourite thing about being a Fonk employee?

Our team. Part of our hiring process is passing the (non-physical) ‘asshole test’. Our team is incredibly diverse in both skillset and background — but all, good people. Building products with this eager and dynamic team makes work not feel like ‘work’.

What’s your favourite spot in or around Cape Town?

Cosy Bay. An idyllic little beach just across from the 12 Apostles Hotel. Diving off the rocks into the Atlantic for some freediving is my ‘happy place’. Zipping through the kelp looking for seals, (small) sharks, crayfish — magic.

What are you absolutely determined to do?

Never stop learning.

If you could advise your 10-year younger self, what would it be?

Mechanical Engineering is cool and all — but — pick up a book about Product Development.

With a digital focus, which real world problem would you like to solve with an app?

Plastic oceans.

What’s something you like to do the old-fashioned way?

Communicating. Not a big fan of social media — or WhatsApp — or phone calls for that matter. Is that bad?

In your spare time, what do you usually enjoy doing?

I’ve got a long list of DIY side-projects — both physical and digital. Be it building wooden lamps or hacking together little Harvest or Spotify extensions. For the past 4 months though — loved every moment of being daddy to little man Louk.
