New FA Pro Icon Packs: Sports and Chess
Look deep, Josh. It’s there. It’s twelve moves away, but it’s there. You’ve got him.
For all of our Font Awesome Pro users/subscribers, we’re designing an additional 46 icon category packs as quick as we can (check out all latest updates).
So we’re super excited to announce that last Friday we released our two of these icon category packs in Font Awesome 5.0.6. For our Pro users, we’ve added a total of 132 new icons (44 unique icons in 3 different styles) across 2 new category packs. And our Font Awesome Free users get another 19 new icons!
New Sports Icon Pack
Sports is one of our oldest and most requested categories, dating all the way back to 2012. So we took a stab at the set. We’ve added 81 new icons (27 unique icons across 3 styles) for our Pro users, and 11 of these are included with Font Awesome Free!
Finally!
Yep, it took us a long time to get to this request from 2012. For ages, it was just me designing icons in my free time. But the project has grown, turned into a company, and become a team (ahem) of 6. As have more folks paying for Font Awesome Pro, we’ve been able to make time for more icons. And as we make more category packs, many icons are getting included back into FA Free so everyone wins (ahem). The Pro version is exactly why we’re able to tackle (ahem) these now. Finally.
New Chess Icon Pack
Have we mentioned that we’re YUGE nerds? We love games, gaming, D&D, and all manner of meaningful frivolities. So of course a Chess category in Font Awesome is a requirement. We also made the set intending it to be used for making chess diagrams. Combined with our awesome Power Transforms + Masking (new in version 5), you can even use these to make chess diagrams.
The chess icon pack includes 51 new icons (17 unique icons across 3 styles). And we’ve included 9 of these in Font Awesome Free!
Font Awesome Goes 3D
And for all of you 3D printing nerds, we’ve put together a full set of STL files so you can download, print, and play a match with your own Font Awesome chess set. Oh, and we got SUPER nerdy and made sure the piece sizes meet all regulations for US Chess Federation tournament play. And the pieces have been slightly modified so all overhangs print without the need of additional supports. The full set of STL files will soon be available for Pro users on your account downloads page.
And as far as we know, this is the first time there’s been a set of 2D icons for chess diagrams that match an actual 3D set you can use for matches.
And don’t worry. We’ll be getting to games and gaming categories just as soon as we can.
