As promised, here are the best resources I’ve come upon on cholesterol for people in a low-carb high-fat diet.

Thomas Dayspring, MD FACP, FNLA, NCMP

Lipidaholics Anonymous Case 291 Can losing weight worsen lipids? A case study of a woman who went on a low-carb diet, lost a lot of weight, but whose cholesterol shot up. Just like me. Some highlights:

Dr. Dayspring also has a document explaining the entire lipid profile and the guidelines he suggests to doctors. Here are my highlights:

Rhonda Patrick, PhD

Her 2nd episode in the Tim Ferriss show is a masterclass in practical nutrition. Warning: it is quite dense. There is a section early in the podcast where she talks about keto and cholesterol. Later in the show, she compares keto, paleo and vegetarian diets. You can read the transcript here. Pro tip: seach for “keto” within the page. Here are my highlights:

Video lectures

Pro tip: increase the speed.

Dr. Ken Sikaris, MBBS, FRCPA, BSc(Hons), FAACB

Ivor Cummins

This guys is not a doctor but an engineer. For me, he’s got the clearest explanation though on the mechanics and the research on cholesterol and heart disease.

Dr. Sarah Hallberg, DO, MS

Dr. Cate Shanahan

Books

If you search “cholesterol” in Amazon, the top results are mostly about how we got it wrong in the past decades. I got the 3rd one. I read it after nerding out on the topic, so the book was just a summary of what I already learned about cholesterol in a low-carb high-fat diet.
