My friends and I frequent this joint called The Wine Company. It’s located at Dempsey Hill, an enclave of colonial black-and-white buildings that were once barracks for the British troops. Today, these buildings house restaurants serving up a myriad of cuisines, from Greek to Vietnamese.
As its name suggests, The Wine Company is primarily a drinking hole with an extensive wine menu. However, it also has food that surpasses your average pub grub. One of my favourites is the Baked Camembert. An entire wheel of camembert is baked with apples and sweet onion relish, and served with…
My wife and I live on a small farm in southeastern Wisconsin. We have a farmhouse made of rock, a stream, a pond, and 4 acres of land. We used to raise chickens, but now we focus mostly on growing organic produce. We use no chemicals of any kind on anything we grow. None. Who wants to grow food using poison?
Unlike our raised beds for much of the other produce, the corn patch is too far away to water from the faucets on the house. This means I have to fill buckets, load them in the wagon attached to…
There is no right or wrong way to prep sushi. What’s important is why you decided to use that method.
As I create my own how to make sushi videos, I started to read many recipes, and watch online videos. I wanted to make sure what I was doing was “right.” After all, I wanted to make sure what I was teaching was “right.”
In search of this correctness, I realized my mistake: there is no right or wrong.
For example, when it comes to filleting fish, I learned almost everyone does it differently. Sometimes small details, sometimes, almost entirely…
Pizza has become such a staple of the modern diet that certain people (raises hand)consider it one of the basic food groups. However, its origins are difficult to pinpoint as it all depends on how you define pizza.
If you loosely define pizza as flat bread with toppings strewn on it, there is evidence that the Persian army during the 5th and 6th centuries used their shields to cook flat bread in this way out in the field. The soldiers would then cover the bread with stuff like cheese and dates for a quick meal.
People have been putting various…
If you want to hurt your wallet, try making these.
I will start by saying that these recipes are at least fairly balanced and well-known. There are some recipes with more than 50 ingredients, but that is too much for this blog.
I love creating cocktails and I’ve seen quite some interesting recipes so far. Some I’ve even tried to make myself.
With just about 10 ingredients excluding garnish, this classic tiki cocktail is one you should try if you love rum and tropical drinks! Created by Don the Beachcomber in 1934, this zombie should turn you into one. Drink…
Turkey and chicken are among the healthier choices of meat comparing to red meat. Now, some people might wonder which is healthier: turkey or chicken? According to Ansley Hill, a registered dietitian nutritionist, they aren’t significantly different. Keri Gans, another registered dietitian, also pointed out that though breast meat usually is leaner than thigh/drumstick dark meat, the fat difference is very small. Therefore, we have reason to believe that either turkey or chicken drumstick is pretty much equally good. In general, it is recommended to cut back red meat consumption, as Cleveland Clinic suggested. …
Self-care is on-trend in a big way and many ways. Candles and facemasks. Spa days and beach cabanas. Netflix and Uber Eats. Meditation and Yoga. Shopping and Sunday brunch.
Pick your potion.
The message is everywhere, from wall art, with sayings like “Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you,” to wellness wine branding and subscription boxes filled with candles and fuzzy socks. Marketers want you to know it’s all right to give your body some pampering and your mind some rest.
And who doesn’t want to take time for themselves?

Health foodies in the North Texas area have an excellent opportunity to indulge their taste buds at Wicked BOLD Vegan Kitchen like we’ve never seen before.
When I started paying attention to what my family and I were eating 26 years ago, I wouldn’t have dreamed we could walk into a vegan charcuterie or that we would see this come to the table.
Weird food doesn’t scare me. I delight in trying new foods, marveling at unique flavors, textures, and appearances. One of the reasons I love to travel is so I can try new foods that aren’t available at home here in California.
As an American, I grew up eating food that most of the world does not consider unusual or weird just because our massive entertainment industry has exposed non-Americans to our food. Hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, steak and potatoes, and roast turkey have all been featured in various movies and TV shows.
Of course, I chuckle when I see stories…
The longer I spend as a family engagement influencer, the more I realize how broad the area is. I remain dedicated to igniting family engagement in education. However, I also accentuate the importance of parents strengthening the bond that they share with their children within their family unit.
The kitchen is the heart of the home. It is the place for the family to gather together build their relationship by communicating with one another. It is also the place to spend time together by preparing and sharing meals.
In the spirit of increasing family communication, love, support, and acceptance, I…
