Ok, Rainbow of Answers, I’m newish to Seattle and it’s Restaurant Week. Where the heck do I go? What are the best eats in Seattle?

Hungry Lady

Dear Lady,

Both an easy and a hard one! Best is certainly subjective (if you’re looking for the best squid-ink pasta, I sadly can’t help you), so I will offer my not-so-humble opinion of $-$$ hits.

I have tasted my share of earthly Seattle delights:

  • The French-inspired rabbit stew at Local360 (Belltown) is nearly orgasmic on a rainy Fall day.
  • Cheap, spicy, delicious Mongolian beef, fried dumplings and dry-cooked green beans at Sichuanese Cuisine (International District). Neal Stephenson’s favorite.
  • Bibimbap at Korean Tofu House (University District). Don’t let all the undergrads scare you away — they know what’s up.
  • The Vermicelli Bowl or Phở Gà at Ba Bar (Capitol Hill). Always high quality and Celiac-friendly for me!
  • The Cowboy Casserole at Citizen (Lower Queen Anne). Freaking yum. They also have terrific coffee, omelets and atmosphere.

Here’s the beautiful thing: There’s something for everyone in Seattle (food trucks are still gaining speed). So perhaps you can use Seattle Restaurant Week to try a new neighborhood and a new cuisine — or to find the best squid-ink pasta. Then let me know!

Cheers,
Eva

P.S. If you’re still searching for the best coffee in this land of beans, it’s hands-down Milstead & Co. over in Fremont. Be prepared for the most knowledgeable baristas ever, plus a $4 cup of joe.
