AC Milan have not played Champions League football since the 2013–14 season and have yet to finish near the top 4 ever since. They’ve experienced lots of managerial changes and poor results in these past years. However, when Chinese owner Li Yonghong decided to complete a takeover of AC Milan, many were optimistic for the future of AC Milan. They spent loads of money in the summer, including bringing in marquee signing Leonardo Bonucci. Milan started the season fairly well, however, soon experienced a slump of form under Vincenzo Montella, which resulted in him getting sacked. His successor, Gennaro Gattuso, at first also struggled to get results, which included failing to beat rock bottom side Benevento. Following that draw, it didn’t get any easier for Gattuso’s men as they dropped more and more points. The Coppa Italia match against city rivals Internazionale seemed to be the final nail in the coffin for Gattuso, however, thanks to teenage sensation Patrick Cutrone, Milan won the match against Internazionale and Gattuso still had a job. As of now, Milan have remained unbeaten in their last 10 games, and have won 5 out of their last 6 games, the same amount of wins that they had managed in their previous 17 fixtures. Their has undoubtedly been some growth under Gattuso’s team, a team full of summer signings that are starting to gel together and are starting to understand each other.

Gattuso has undoubtedly revitalised this Milan side, following a very poor start to the season.

Their recent form sees them 7 points of rivals Internazionale, who currently occupy the final Champions League spot, and have only experienced 1 win in their last 10 games. With their form, Gatusso and his players are finally starting to believe that they can revive their season by making top 4, despite starting the season poorly. While Milan haven’t been in the top 4 since matchday 5, with the unity of the team, their belief, and support from the fans, nothing is impossible.
