Former Sunderland, Manchester United and Everton Manager David Moyes has signed a six-month contact with the Hammers which will see him take charge until the end of this season.

Moyes (54) has been looking for the right project after his Sunderland side were unable to beat the drop last season which saw the Scotsman part ways with the Black Cats.

The appointment was announced early on Tuesday morning and it is reported that the new boss will meet his squad and lead a training session for those who are not on International duty later on today.

Here what David Moyes had to say: I’m really looking forward to meeting the supporters, being in the stadium with them and seeing them get right behind the team, and my team also,” he said.

“We need everybody with us. It’s a big job we have in hand now but, with everybody together, I’m sure we can get the right results between now and the end of the season.”

The West Ham board wasted no time in appointing a new manger after parting ways with Croatian Slaven Bilic earlier this week. David Sullivan is certainly pleased with the appointment though the face that Moyes has only been handed a 6 month deal may cause some unrest amongst the West Ham faithful.

Joint Chairman David Sullivan: “This is a unique position for David Gold and myself. It is the first time in almost eight years at West Ham that we have appointed a new manager during the season.

“We need somebody with experience, knowledge of the Premier League and the players in it, and we believe David is the right man to turn things around and get the best out of the players at the Club. He is highly regarded and respected within the game, and will bring fresh ideas, organisation and enthusiasm. He proved with Everton that he has great qualities and we feel that West Ham United is a Club that will give David the platform to display those qualities again.”

Premier League Standings as of November 7th

David may be excited to roll his sleeves up and get stuck in at the London Stadium but he has an awful lot of work to do in an attempt to turn the Hammers season around. As things stands West Ham have only managed to pick up 9 points from a possible 33 and are currently placed 18th in the table.
