Everton v. Middlesbrough
Whilst everyone this season seems to be talking about the Manchester clubs, Chelsea, Liverpool, Leicester and Spurs, Ronald Koeman and Everton have been quietly doing their bit. The Toffees sit 3rd in the table, with 10 points from 12 and are looking quality. A successful transfer window featuring the acquisition of Yannick Bolasie and the impressive Gueye has resulted in the Merseyside club kicking off the season very well. On Monday Night Football, Everton heaped more misery on David Moyes’ Sunderland side by smashing them 3–0 at the Stadium of Light with Romelu Lukaku banging in an impressive hat-trick. It was a commanding performance from Koeman’s side and a further sign that Everton fans ought to be excited about this season as oppose to last seasons big dissapointment.
Up next for Koeman and his team is a home tie against newly promoted Middlesbrough. Although they have looked decent since being promoted, Negredo and co. ought to be of little challenge to this Everton side, who many expect to keep their great run of form going. Crucially for Everton, the game against Sunderland marked the end of Lukaku’s longest ever drought in English football as he scored his first goal in 13 games. It didnt take him long to add to his tally, as he scored a hat-trick in 11 minutes. Surely we ought to expect him to get on the scoresheet against Boro?
West Brom v. West Ham
Its been an absolutely horrendous start for Tony Pulis and West Brom. Beating Crystal Palace on the opening day might’ve suggested that the Baggies would kick on this season, but it hasn’t happened yet. Instead, West Brom fans have had to endure a defeat to Everton, a draw at home to Boro and most recently a dire defeat to Bournemouth. Pulis has had to publicly deny that his job is hanging by a thread. Yet, if you fancy a risky punt this weekend, West Brom might be a good shout. Their opponents, West Ham, were equally poor last weekend. Starting brilliantly at home to Watford, cruising into a 2–0 lead, they ended up losing the game 4–2. In reality, both these sides are in desperate need of the three points, but the Premier League is the master of shock results, and perhaps West Brom can grab one here. Lets see!
