Apply to be considered for an internship at 20 startups & 1 VC fund (for graduate and undergrad students)

* If you are or know a student looking for an internship, please pass on this opportunity!

We’re launching the Tsingyuan Ventures Internship program to match ambitious undergrad and graduate students with spring/summer internship roles at 20 startups in our portfolio. We’ll also be hiring two interns for our own fund. In addition to engineering roles, there are opportunities in marketing, social media, design, writing, bioinformatics, and more. The majority are paid opportunities, and most internships are flexible in terms of start date and duration.

  • Rolling applications are accepted (the sooner you apply, the better!), and the final deadline to submit your application is Jan. 20, 2021

Working at a startup will be an intense and fast-paced opportunity to learn. You’ll be paired with a mentor/supervisor, but much of your internship will be self-directed. You’ll have the chance to see the inner workings of an early-stage company and contribute to the startup in a meaningful way.

Tsingyuan Ventures Interns

Tsingyuan Ventures is also hiring two summer interns for our fund. Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Community Intern

This is a paid position geared towards underclassmen. The internship will involve content creation, research and writing, marketing, and community-building. You will work with one of our partners to design and lead projects that both fit your interests and are beneficial to the firm. We prefer but do not require full bilingual fluency in English and Mandarin Chinese.

You can read more about my personal experience as a Tsingyuan intern below.

  • Investment Intern

This is a paid position geared towards upperclassmen. We prefer rising seniors who want to become venture capitalists. The internship will involve deal analysis and support, and sector analysis and research. You will work closely with our team and partners to learn about the VC job, and gain insight into the industry as a whole.

My Personal Experience

I’ve been working with Tsingyuan as an intern for the past ~6 months. My work aligns most closely with the Community Intern position. Here are some examples of projects I’ve worked on:

  • Starting a marketing series called “Founder’s Lessons” (see the articles here), where I interviewed 20 startup founders in Tsingyuan’s portfolio as well as Venture Partners. I conducted the interviews, edited the transcripts, and created design assets for the articles.
  • Writing and publishing a series of pattern articles summarizing insights across interviews (here)
  • Updating and redesigning the Tsingyuan Ventures home page to more prominently feature portfolio companies (here)
  • Helping manage our Twitter account (follow us here!)
  • Creating an “intern guide” with internship set-up guidelines and tips for future interns

I’ve had a wonderful experience working with and learning from the Tsingyuan team. Every team member I’ve interacted with has been genuinely eager to help answer questions and offer support. Being part of a small team is a really special opportunity to gain insight into different paths and learn about aspects of VC that are less obvious to outsiders. I’ve been able to start and get feedback on projects quickly and gain a lot of hands-on experience. Through these different projects — as well as the opportunity to attend several pitch meetings and read investment memos — I’ve learned a ton about frontier technologies, VC thesis and investment strategies, startups, asking questions, communicating efficiently, and the importance of trust.

I would absolutely recommend anyone with strong communication and written skills apply for this internship. You will need to be self-driven and responsible for your own projects, but the internship is well-designed to support you. Since the beginning of my internship, I’ve had a weekly check-in meeting with my mentor, Xuhui, Tsingyuan Managing Partner. Having a regular schedule has really helped motivate me and given me assurance that there is a structure to ask questions and ask for feedback. The Tsingyuan team gives me the opportunity to give input on the projects I’m working on, and we brainstorm, design, and implement them together. I’ve enjoyed having a lot of independence and flexibility in my work schedule.

Please feel free to email me with any further questions about the startup or VC internships at taylor@tsingyuan.ventures. I hope you consider applying for these positions — or referring a student you know to the opportunity!
