Announcing Footium’s Season 0.5!

Season 1 is slated for late summer, but we don’t want you to get bored waiting. Plus, we need to test and implement the improvements you’ve suggested. So, we’re excited to confirm an extra season arriving in July: Season 0.5.

Footium is planned to launch Season 0.5 before the end of July, to keep you entertained, roll out new features, and ensure thorough QA on your feedback before Season 1.

That’s another full 22-day season, more matches, more fun, and hopefully fewer upsets…

Our target is mid-July for Season 0.5, with Season 1 following late summer. As always, this timeline is subject to change based on our development progress. Keep your eyes peeled for updates and announcements! 👀

Here’s a quick rundown of what to expect:

✅ What’s Included:

  • Another full season of gameplay, with an extended transfer window and 22 days of matches.
  • Rare player rewards finally given, and available as rare spawns in academies for the first time.
  • Complete club and squad management, including transfers, tactics, and one other thing…
  • Continued Academy player minting — grow your squad, with players minted remaining for Season 1 and onwards.
  • All accrued prize money set aside for Prize Pool Funds.

⛔️ What’s NOT included:

  • Real money prizes are off the table, as this season focuses on gathering user feedback.
  • No relegation or promotion.
  • No accumulation of minutes for potential unlocking
  • No Legendary Players.
  • No player aging.

Season 0.5 is a chance to continue your Footium journey, helping us refine the requests, ideas, and fixes you’ve suggested, while you compete for glory live on Arbitrum. So how are we rewarding your impact?

We’re making training available for a few days during Season 0.5, and the ratings gained will persist through to future seasons. However, bare in mind that training will be slower and more condition costly in season 0.5 due to there being no player aging/retirement currently present.

We’ll be launching the festivities in early July, along with community Q&As, guide launches, and further questing… don’t worry, it wont be as intensive!

🗣️ What we’re updating, and need your feedback on:

  • Game engine upgrades: Addressing reserve player issues, rating calculations, GKs scoring, and several bug fixes.
  • Rare players: Competition awards, academy minting, and season/training impact.
  • Training UX and balancing: Training will be available for a few days.
  • API Improvements: Enhancing security, stability, and scalability.
  • Metadata improvements: Further refining Opensea data and filtering.
  • Infrastructure updates: Ensuring the game is running smoothly and issues from Season 0 are eliminated

Why Season 0.5

There are a core set of reasons we are keen to give you access to Footium before Season 1 launch:

  1. The development team want to test some of our Game Engine Improvements ahead of real money prizes being active. This should impact the key bugs players faced during Season 0, such as GKs scoring, and too-frequent zombie team wins.
  2. We need to test season transitions, some of these seasonality systems will happen at the start of the season, 0 to 0.5. So, in the future, rather than the team releasing a new deployment after every season, it will flow from one season to the next.
  3. We’d like to give you the opportunity to experience our training overhaul, with a full UI revamp, there’s a lot of ease-of-use fixes.
  4. As always, there’s general bug fixes and UX improvements across the app, can you spot them all?
  5. We’re also generally making infrastructure improvements. For example: how we patch the game mid-season and continue development for next season, test prize calculation models, and make various backend fixes for stability and security.

How we’ll run the season:

  • Season Breakdown: ~7 days of pre-season, followed by 22 days of 1x games per day
  • Fixture Scheduling: Spread across 16 timeslots staying largely the same, with an hour free gap in the middle of the day. This means 96 games per slot, as with Season 0.
  • Academy: You’ll get a fresh cohort of young stars into your club academy, and any unminted players from Season 0 will leave. We’ll also likely make some adjustments to pricing based on our Season 0 analysis.
  • Prizes: We’re actively thinking about prizes, to make it more rewarding for those finishing at the top of the table — let us know what you’d like to see. We’ll release more information closer to the season start.

So that should cover all the details we can make available now, and we’ll give firmer dates and clearer answers further down the line, ensuring you have plenty of time to set tactics, negotiate transfers and scout your academy.
