Footium: A guide to setting up your MetaMask Wallet
We will provide details on how you can safely set up your MetaMask wallet to enable you to mint a Footium club next week! Read more about the Initial Club Mint here.
Disclaimer: Please be very careful when moving funds. If you input the wrong address or go to an untrusted website, funds may be lost!
- You start off the process by opening Google Chrome and searching ‘MetaMask download extension’.
2. Once you have searched this you will see MetaMask Download as the top search, make sure that the URL is metamask.io/download when you are on the website.
3. You are now on the official MetaMask website, look to the middle-bottom of the page where it says ‘Install MetaMask for Chrome’ and click that button.
4. You will then be redirected to the chrome web store where you can add MetaMask as an extension to your browser. Do this by simply clicking the ‘Add to Chrome’ button on the right of the page.
5. Upon doing this it will open a pop-up that says ‘Get Started’, click that and you will be taken to the page displayed below. This is where you are going to create your MetaMask wallet, so go ahead and press the ‘Create a Wallet’ button on the right.
It will ask you to create a password for your wallet which you will need when opening MetaMask and connecting it to different websites. Make sure it’s nice and secure and saved somewhere safe in a password manager app!
6. Once you have saved your password and agreed to the terms and conditions you will be taken to a page giving you some information about your Secret Recovery Phrase. Make sure to watch the video and read all of the information regarding your phrase. It is vital that you store this correctly and never share it with anyone as they can then access your funds.
7. After watching the video and reading all the information, you will be taken to a page where you can reveal your Secret Recovery Phrase. There are further tips for information on how to correctly store this phrase on the right-hand side of the screen.
Once you are happy you have stored your phrase correctly, press next and you will need to enter your Secret Recovery Phrase in the correct order to enable you to create your wallet. Once this is all done you will see the page shown below, which has some more tips that you should read regarding your phrase.
8. Well done, you officially have a MetaMask wallet! I will go over some useful information to help you now that you’re set up. Click the puzzle piece that is highlighted below and then click the pin next to MetaMask logo. This means that your MetaMask wallet is extremely easy to access by always being viewable on your Chrome Toolbar.
9. Shown below is what the MetaMask wallet looks like when you click on the Chrome Toolbar. I changed my account name to ‘Sam | Footium’ by clicking the 3 dots and going into account details.
10. What is my Wallet Address?
Your wallet address is below your account name and just above the Ethereum symbol, if you hover over your account name/wallet address, it will give you the option to copy your wallet address. It will start with an 0x and be 42 characters long.
Make sure to double-check this before sending funds over because if you enter your wallet incorrectly, you will lose the funds. When sending Ethereum for the mint from an exchange, you will send it to this address.
11. To deposit funds into your MetaMask wallet, go to the exchange where you have Ethereum, click withdraw, copy your address and paste it into the exchange withdraw page and confirm the transaction after checking the address.
