Footium’s Tactical Transition to Arbitrum

We’re delighted to share the news that Footium will launch on Arbitrum, the leading Layer 2 solution. For our players, this translates to a richer Footium experience where you can mint academy prospects, negotiate and scout for star players in the transfer market, and manage your club’s strategy — all with the advantages of minimal gas fees and increased speed. This strategic move ensures that your focus remains on the game, not the cost of participation.

Footium & Arbitrum

Ever since we started building Footium, we’ve always said that we would launch the game on a Layer 2 to drastically lower the fees within the game and ensure a great user experience. This was a selling point of the game to a number of you in the community, and there has been questions ever since around which Layer 2 this would be!

After much research and many discussions with various teams in the space, we ultimately decided that Arbitrum One was the best fit for Footium and will help us continue to grow the game for launch and help us scale much further beyond — to learn more about why we made this decision, read on below!

Arbitrum: Your Virtual Midfield Maestro

Let’s talk tactics. Arbitrum is like that reliable midfielder — improving the flow of the game (in this case, transactions) without hogging the spotlight. It cuts through the noise (and costs) of the Ethereum mainnet, letting you focus on the game without worrying about high fees when minting those academy graduates or buying future stars for your team. There is already a healthy ecosystem of games on Arbitrum, but Footium will be the first sports game to launch there!

How the Shift to Arbitrum Affects You and Your Club

TL;DR:

• Automatic Club Transition: The shift of your club from Ethereum to Arbitrum requires nothing on your end, we’ve got you covered!
• Wallet Setup: After we have moved to Arbitrum, to access Footium you will need to add the Arbitrum network to your normal Ethereum Wallet (MetaMask etc) — Our FAQ page has easy-to-follow guides.
• Ethereum Club Metadata Update: Your ETH Club will be retired and we’ll update the metadata (images, descriptions of the NFT) to explain that the club is now on Arbitrum
• Trading Platforms: When buying and selling Footium Clubs, please ensure you are on the Arbitrum collection, not the Ethereum one — this should be clear with the halting of the contract that will disable all trading alongside metadata updates & branding. Only follow official links on our platforms!
• Scam Alert: Stay vigilant against scams exploiting this transition. Clubs remaining on the Ethereum Chain will not be usable in the game at all or have any use moving forward. Please do not trust any information from DMs and only follow all communication from verified members of the team.
• Your Initial Squad: Once Footium is ready to go live, your initial squad will be sent to your Arbitrum wallet that holds your Footium Club.

• Gnosis Safe Wallet: If your club is currently within a Gnosis Safe smart contract wallet, please move it to a normal wallet for the merge as there is a chance your club could be lost. Please note that your assets will only be in a Gnosis Safe if you have previously set one up and transferred your club there, as this type of wallet isn’t automatically assigned. If this is the case and you need support with moving the club, please contact George via the support channel in Footium’s discord.

We are managing the complete transition of Footium Clubs from Ethereum to Arbitrum. The first step in this migration process involves pausing and locking the Ethereum Footium contract. This action will halt all buying, selling and transferring activities. We will pause the Footium contract next week (date and time to be announced beforehand).

Following the contract on Ethereum being paused, we will take a snapshot of all clubs and the wallets they are held in. This is crucial for ensuring that we can accurately deploy clubs to the correct owners on the Arbitrum mainnet. Once this snapshot is taken, and after thorough testing over a week, we will automatically distribute each club on Arbitrum to the respective Club Owners’ wallets. Anyone with a wallet on Ethereum automatically owns and has access to the same address on Arbitrum, you just need to add the Arbitrum access on the wallet — more info here.

However, this is not the case for Smart Contract Wallets (see tl;dr above) so you will need to move your club if holding your Footium Club in one.

Additionally, we will update the Metadata (image and description of the NFTs) on the original Ethereum Footium Club NFTs. This update will serve as a clear indicator that your club has moved to Arbitrum. Please note that post-migration, the Ethereum-based NFTs will no longer have any functionality within the game.

It’s Almost Game Time

As the countdown to the inaugural season of Footium nears its end, we are completing another big milestone through this migration. After a thorough scouting of the field, we’re confident that Arbitrum is the playmaker we need to scale Footium to new heights post-launch.
