Introducing Footium
Footium is a Football Strategy game where players can own a football club, mint players from their academy and compete to win prizes.

The Footium Origin Story
We (Jordan and James, The Footium Founders) met at an Encode Club hackathon in 2020, and have been focused on building Footium ever since. Over the last year, we have built out a full game engine, received a grant from Rarible, and added countless features to the game.
We are happy to announce the next step in our journey: Footium has closed a pre-seed round led by Encode Invest. The round also includes investment from Portico Ventures, Ben Middleton, Batuhan Dasgin and Yoni Ben Shimon.
What is Footium?
To put it simply, Footium is a football strategy game that allows users to own a football club, build a squad of players and compete to win prizes.
Footium improves upon existing football management games by empowering gamers through ownership. By introducing NFTs and a native token, we’ve brought play-to-earn characteristics to the kind of game that millions of users around the world spend hours playing each day.
Who are we?
Footium was founded by Jordan Lord (previously a Software Engineer at Netcraft) and James O’Leary (Economics at Oxford University).
Jordan is a full-stack developer with blockchain development experience, previously a game developer for Multiverse Inc and Derby County Fan. James is a Smart Contract Developer with a passion for gaming.
Why we built Footium
We began building Footium in 2020 as we saw the impact that NFTs could have upon gaming, but particularly games that are oriented around developing longer term value. Football management games were a perfect fit. Gamers are investing their time and emotions, seeing their club through its highs and its lows. In Footium you’re able to own a club, mint players, transfer those players to other clubs, receive prizes for getting promoted or winning a cup competition as well as much much more.
Currently, millions of people around the world spend hours each day playing football management games. They do this purely for fun. What if those hundreds (sometimes even thousands) of hours spent playing could also generate revenue and improve their player and club value?
As we began building Footium, even more game-changing use cases became apparent, including token staking to improve club morale and in-game performance, retired player staking to improve the quality of academy output and much more.
So, we decided to build the game we had always dreamed of. A game where players can enjoy engaging gameplay, are rewarded for their level of skill and can earn money whilst doing so.
Roadmap
Footium will start with 8 leagues structured in a funnel-fashion, similar to the English Conference. Each league will contain 12 clubs, with the bottom 3 being relegated each season, and 3 clubs coming up from the two leagues below (top 1/2 clubs from each league, with a playoff deciding the 3rd place).
To fill these leagues there will be a total of 3060 clubs. Each club will have a generative club badge, kit and stadium. The badge will be based on a number of traits, the rarity of which will determine their starting league once the game is released as well as the stadium size. 144 clubs will be reserved for a variety of uses, including giveaways, creating a community fund and for Footium team members and advisors (present and future).
