The Footium Football Pyramid contains every Footium club currently in existence and after our recent cup competitions overview, we thought it would be a good time to take a deep dive into the divisions, leagues, promotions and relegations within the Footium Football League.

TL:DR

  • If you win your league within a division you will be promoted to the division above
  • On average 2 Clubs go up with 4 going down each season per league
  • Finishers in the top 8 in the league will be eligible for prizes
  • Footium Football League acts like a pyramid funnel with leagues+teams doubling each division below
  • You can not be relegated from Division 8 as things stand
  • Head to the bottom of the article to see the new FFL (Footium Football League) logo!

How does the Footium Football Pyramid work?

The Footium Football pyramid works similarly to how the leagues work in the Non-League levels of England, whereby when a team gets relegated from the National League they get moved into separate leagues. You can find an insight into the English Football Pyramid here, however, we have made a graphic so you can see how it works within Footium.

The Footium Football League

Leagues within Divisions

Each league within Footium contains 12 teams, there are a number of different leagues within a division which creates the pyramid. In division 1 there is only one league with 12 teams, and as we go down a division this is where the split begins. Each division you go down, the number of leagues and teams within that division doubles. This can be seen in the table above.

Promotion and Relegation

Promotion and relegation has caused a few questions in the community (hence this article) due to the amount of leagues within a division. Do not worry, you don’t need to win leagues 255 through to 128 in Division 8 just to get to Division 7! If you win your league or come second within your respective division you will automatically be promoted to the division above.

As there is promotion, there sadly has to be relegation. Each season, the four bottom teams from each league will get relegated to the division below. This means that on average 2 teams will go up and 4 teams will go down per league.

Division 1 and 8

It is going to be slightly different in Division 1 and Division 8 because there is no promotion in Division 1 and no relegation in Division 8. Division 1 is similar to any top league in world football, winning this league title is something any Footium Club owner would dream of, the best of the best in the whole of the FFL.

Combine this with being relegated from the absolute top flight, there are a lot of different dynamics going on within Division 1.

As Division 8 is our current bottom league, there is obviously no relegation. This makes Division 8 a really good starter league to test out all of your tactics and learn how to play the game.

Where do I need to finish to qualify for prizes?

If you finish 1st in your league you will not only be promoted to the league above as champion, but this is where you earn the highest prize. You will also receive a prize for finishing in the following 7 positions down to 8th.
