A Law

Of nature.

The tide of time is like a rhyme
and seems to know it all
standing on the shifting sands
beside the rise and fall.

It is a law of nature
and is also universal
surety of rise and fall
and no known reversal.

The cycle of the moon
seas both flow and ebb
spiders set traps
they are woven in a web.

Nations rise and fall
soldiers follow too
rising then falling
and then another coup.

Christ fell on the cross
died and then he rose
reborn only to fall again
how nobody knows.

The sepulchre is open
and the ghosts have risen
from the burial chamber
free at last from prison.

Each day the sun rises
and a new day’s born
I stand in awe at the door
in the light of dawn.

I fall into a dreamlike state
and rise in the morning
only to rise and fall again
with minimal warning.

Life is short and transient
it happens to us all
the inevitability
of the rise and fall.
