Andrea Feczko: A True Travel Nerd

By Alex Moss

Everyone loves to travel. It broadens the mind and creates memories. Andrea Feczko knows this better than anyone; while she hangs out on red carpets and has had more YouTube views than you’ve had hot dinners Andrea’s true passion is travelling.

When speaking with Andrea you have to be on your toes. Literally. She’s got the energy of a thousand Duracell bunnies and a mind that races ahead and in directions that are always enlightening and endlessly entertaining. At one point during our conversation she runs across the room to show off her travelling shoes, ‘because they’re my favourite shoes to walk in and also have heels in them’. Funky shoes apart the real question is how did Andrea find global fame?

You grow up thinking people think the way you do, but they don’t, which is fine but it kind of rocks your foundation. That was a big travel moment for me.

As a child Andrea was a gifted athlete but had no passion for it; others felt she was a talented musician but, she says, ‘I thought I was horrible’. By her own admission, Andrea is a ‘ gigantic nerd’. She says, “If I could be a student for the rest of my life, and make a living out of it, I would.” At this point I have to ask what Andrea’s definition of a ‘nerd’ is. Andrea laughs, “Everyone’s a nerd in some way, we all geek out over our passions. It’s basically admitting you’re passionate about something.”

Her thirst for knowledge has led Andrea on many adventures but, realising being a student for the rest of her life isn’t financially viable, she knew she had to find a calling. It led her to an unlikely, yet all too logical, conclusion. “Presenting is the closest thing to that, because you’re constantly learning, doing different jobs, constantly trying to be an expert in things you don’t always know much about.” Indeed, after our chat Andrea has to run off to do research for an upcoming job.

I’m an equal opportunity girl. Especially when it comes to Chris Pratt.

While Andrea found fame on YouTube, thanks to her starring role in Barely Productions’ parody music videos in which she has starred as the likes of Taylor Swift and Ke$ha, it clearly wasn’t enough to feed her nerdism. These days she presents on the red carpet of numerous Marvel films, chatting to the likes of Bradley Cooper and Scarlett Johansson. Andrea has clearly done her research on Marvel as well. In a quick game of snog, marry, avoid, Andrea answers with lightning quick responses. She’d marry Chris Evans aka Captain America, “I’ll love him till the day I die”. The lucky recipient of an Andrea kiss would be Thor, although she thinks he probably has distance issues so a relationship is out of the question. And she’d avoid the forgettable villain in Guardians of The Galaxy (Ronan The Accuser), although is a big Chris Pratt fan in Jurassic World, “I’m an equal opportunity girl. Especially when it comes to Chris Pratt.”

On top of that Andrea works for the likes of Yahoo, Vice, QYOU, Vacation Chasers and hosting the live stream for the Ultra Live festivals around the world. Andrea’s line of work allows her to indulge her travel bug. “Travel is my passion, it’s something that I’ve figured out over the years. There was no master plan.” When travelling in Europe at the tender age of 19 Andrea realised the power of travelling to other cultures. “You grow up thinking people think the way you do, but they don’t, which is fine but it kind of rocks your foundation. That was a big travel moment for me.”

I’m a big believer in always saying yes. Unless it’s a creepy old guy, then you should say ‘no’

Andrea sites places like Asia and Ibiza as two of her favourite places she’s visited. She also knows the importance of packing exactly the right things for any trip. It’s here we arrive at the aforementioned favourite shoes because when it comes to travelling right Andrea is a bonafide expert, indeed a travel nerd. “I take things I need to survive”. These include things to help her sleep — always good for beating jetlag — medicine to keep her healthy while she’s away and powerbars, because they make for a quick and easy breakfast. Oh, and of course her favourite shoes.

And with that Andrea is off on another adventure, off to meet a world of superheroes, off to parody another pop star, off to the great unknown. And that’s Andrea to a tee., To quote Andrea herself, “I’m a big believer in always saying yes. Unless it’s a creepy old guy, then you should say ‘no’”.
