- Invest in quality well-made classic menswear staples such as a navy suit, wool overcoat, brogue shoes, blue jeans and knitwear. Having the classics such as these is like the skeleton and you can style many outfits from them.
- Don’t chase all the menswear trends each season — this can be very expensive and you may also look back with embarrassment on some of your style choices.
- Always try on clothing and get a second opinion before making the purchase. Fit is one of the most important aspects to great style and really does make a difference.
- Only buy things you’re comfortable wearing — often great style goes hand-in-hand with confidence and it’s difficult to fake confidence. If you’re wearing something which isn’t “you” and you feel self-conscious inside, then simply don’t wear it.
- Pay attention to the details — socks, watches, cufflinks, pocket squares, ties, sunglasses…these small items can really lift an outfit and add a great deal of personality to your look.
