“Jet Li could play me, he’s cool”
By Alex Moss
At Sharp we understand the importance of a fully functioning home. We are more than just a brand, we are people too who, like you, have homes, kitchens and families.
Every month we want to introduce you to a member of the Sharp Family. This month we spoke to Sharp Business Planning Manager, Hiroshi Katta, who has been working for Sharp for 12 years and sees himself as part of the furniture.
If Sharp is one big happy family, which family member are you and why?
I am a good son with big hopes for the future. I like to set the example for my brothers and sisters in making my parents happy.
When you’re not part of the Sharp family what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I like to play sport, tennis in particular. I train a few times a week.
What is your favourite film or book?
My favourite films are The Godfather trilogy. It’s all about family and the lengths people will go to protect family. I love the tradition that the film shows.
If your life was a film who would play you?
Jessica Lange (laughs) because I’m watching American Horror Story. Maybe Jackie Chan? But I don’t do Kung Fu so I might need a stunt-double. But definitely an action star. Maybe Jet Li, he’s cooler.
What kind of music do you listen to?
K-Pop, it’s very big in Asia. It’s becoming quite big in Europe as well.
Where do you live?
I live in Woking, Surrey. It’s not too bad getting to work but it depends on the traffic. The M25 can be very unpredictable. So it can take anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half. But at least I don’t have to get on the tube everyday.
What does home mean to you?
Home is somewhere I feel relaxed, it’s the base of my life. Home is about family, about myself, it’s where I belong and importantly where I sleep. It’s where I close the door and the outside world doesn’t matter anymore. It’s where I have my time.
If you won the lottery what would be your first purchase?
Apart from saving a little bit. I would hire a consultant to manage my money. It’s a very sensible answer I know. I live in a flat at the moment so I’d like to have a house with a garden and a bit more space.
Who is your hero?
For tennis it has to be Novak Djokovic, he’s the Number One in the world right now. In life, my father. He always set a good example for me to follow.
What is your favourite childhood memory?
I used to always love family holidays with my parents and brothers and sisters. I have one sister and one brother, both are older.
Do you cook, if so what is your signature dish?
I make a great Tesco Finest in a Sharp microwave (laughs).
What one smell reminds you of home?
Back home there was this incense that you put in the family memorial box, it always transports me home.
Do you have any Home Appliance horror stories?
A pipe behind my washing machine leaked but it was a small amount for a really long time. But it wasn’t leaking all the time so it would flood at all hours of the day. It took me over a month to find it. It was a bit of a nightmare. It wasn’t a Sharp washing machine. I learned my lesson.
