Issue 1 of The For Life Journal is geared around The Acid Test, which in our eyes is what happens when a relationship is strained, whether personal or business. Editor Leo Kent explores the history of the phrase and it’s relevance to Sharp’s For Life philosophy.

‘P’assing the acid test’ is a common English-language expression that means someone or something has passed a test that conclusively proves their veracity or worth.

The origin of the phrase lies in the traditional test used to ascertain whether gold was genuine. Gold is a noble metal. As a result, unlike base metals, it is resistant to acid.

During the gold rush era in America, gold was rubbed against a black surface. The subsequent gold mark left on the surface was treated with acid. If the gold stain dissolved then it wasn’t real gold.

We’ve called this issue The Acid Test because we believe the acid test between business and customer is how the former reacts when something goes wrong. If you’re having a problem with your appliance, have no fear, we will not leave you in the lurch.
