Day 482

Michael MacPherson
For my 4th and final app

So, the blogging experiment didn’t quite work out, on account of me being much more interested in writing code instead of English. While I enjoyed telling some stories earlier, I felt it more important to focus on building the product than trying to talk around it. Here’s what I’ve been up to during the last week of 2018.

When I started to blog, I set up the following stipulation:

I’ll be committing to it for 12 posts, 1 year, or a completed prototype for app #4 — whichever comes first.

Whelp — seems that the completed prototype came first, just before the year end. The app is now ready for private beta testing, and if you’re interested in trying it out, get in touch with me.

With that, I’ve decided make the jump from ‘b’ to ‘v’, stop blogging, and start vlogging. Since the app is going to ask users produce visual social media content about their lives, I feel that it is only fair that I am willing to do the same.

The current plan is to create videos on any day that I’m working on the app, and post them to Instagram Stories. At the end of each month, I’ll compile them into YouTube videos.

Much like blogging, I aim to do this for a year. Unlike blogging, I aim to actually stick with it. And if I don’t, I owe at least 3 people $100.

This is a decision of discomfort, and I am certain that 2019 Mike will spend many days resenting the decision of 2018 Mike. Whenever that discomfort becomes too much, I will look back to something that 2015 Mike wrote while building Endship; something to repeat to myself whenever I was having a hard time.

My Affirmations:

Be an olympic web developer.

Don’t be smug.

Don’t be boring.

Seek out and attempt what you’re not comfortable doing.

Most of all, be kind.

My Prayer:

I am grateful for all that I have been provided.

I am grateful for the food I eat, for the physical, mental, and emotional stability I possess. I am grateful for the technology in today’s world that grants me the capacity to live a life that I am sure will be filled with invention and adventure. I am grateful for the place of my birth, and the love and support of my family. Most importantly, I acknowledge that many of these factors were out of my control. So it is for these gifts, that I will be forever grateful.

Amen.

Let’s finish the year with another haiku:

Time for video

Scared shitless to show my face

Finger gun to head

Looking forward to seeing you on my Instagram and YouTube.

Or here again if I have to apologize for something.

Happy New Year!
