FABA Vintage: Portraits from Sudan
A collection of portraits from 7 veteran Sudanese photographers taken during Sudan’s golden age of photography.
The 50s-70s was described as the golden age of Sudanese photography. There was a surge of photographers during that period as a result of the commercialization of film cameras in Sudan in the 1940s. These photographs include studio portraits and other forms of documentary photography that captured the lifestyle in Sudan at the time.
While researching images of vintage Sudan online, we came across Elnour––a platform run by French Photographer Claude Iverné and his Sudanese colleagues that houses a collection of about 12000 digitized images from 1890 till now and still ongoing for the purpose of cultural preservation and awareness.
We culled from the site, images from 7 veteran photographers whose work have been already been digitized on the platform and exhibited globally.
