Sights and Sounds is a new video series that employ imagery and sound to capture the elements of African cities. We launch with an intimate video portrait of Côte d’Ivoire’s largest metropolis, Abidjan.

This video takes a “fly on the wall” approach in which our audience can take in the rich cultural elements of daily life in the city without distractions. The video offers an immersive look into various spaces throughout Abidjan, where both rural and urban life coexist, and spotlights the very people who give the city its character. Footage for the documentary-style short was captured across the communities of Cocody, Plateau, Treichville and Yopougon.

We highlight several unique aspects of the city’s culture: from its lively markets, to its packed streets and traditional Zaouli dancers, whose deeply-spiritual performance appeals to both the visual and auditory senses.
