Sometimes, I didn’t understand my boss.
He was the one driving when he usually let me do it. I leaned on the window and stared at his handsome face.
He looked like he was out there looking to murder someone. I didn’t have to ask to know that the negotiation didn’t go well.
I didn’t like that place too. It was a company with white light so strong that it seemed more like a hospital. Nothing smelt great there and I was secretly happy that the deal didn’t go through. My boss wouldn’t love to work with those people.
They didn’t even let me into the meeting room even though we had told them that I was the secretary.
My boss cleared his throat and I blinked, pulling my attention back to him. I asked, “Yes, boss. Anything I can help you with?”
“You’ve been staring.”
“At you? At the street?”
“You know what I’m talking about. Don’t play dumb in front of me.”
He took an abrupt turn, almost throwing me to the side of the car.
“Whoa! I know you aren’t the happiest camper, but there’s no need to kill me over that.”
He let out a heavy breath and clenched the steering wheel even tighter. Maybe I should shut up and stop teasing him.
I swallowed. “Boss, maybe you need a break. We will figure out which company to pitch next. It is going to be fine. It has been. We aren’t dying to get their business.”
He let out a low growl and I looked away from him. Apparently, I was wrong about something, but I didn’t know which part was wrong.
He drove to a drive-thru though, maybe that meant he was finally hungry and he would get us tacos.
“If I were you, I’d stay quiet.”
“But you never liked for me to stay quiet. You love to make me — “
He glared at me, stabbing me in the chest with his gaze. I shrugged. “Fine, I’m just trying to you feel better. If you don’t want a few jokes, that’s not an issue for me.”
