Action required: Proposal 23 of Cosmos Hub is in voting period. You can vote using your Ledger on Big Dipper.

As a Hong Konger, I don’t have much right to vote in our governance. That’s maybe the reason why I cherish the right to vote when it comes to Cosmos. In fact, this is not just a right but also a responsibility to vote. “Forbole” represents an attitude which should be reflected by our vote.

The Proposal 23 on Cosmos Hub is in voting period. This is the first community pool spend proposal that has come to voting period. Once the proposal is passed, the proposed sum of money (in Atoms) will be transferred directly to the proposed address without the need for executors or intermediaries. This is why on-chain governance is beautiful.

(For those who are new to Cosmos Network: simply put, Atoms holders are now voting on the very first application for funding from a community pool of Atoms. This pool is accumulated through the “tax” collected based on the reward which worths more than US$1.3M at the time of writing.)

Forbole is in an interesting position. As a validator, we currently rank #18 with 1.8% voting power. This is quite promising thanks to the love from the community including other validators. I would say we belong to the class of peasants. Why? It’s because:

  • We are not a VC-backed or a VC-partnered startup.
  • We have no track record in blockchain space before we joined Cosmos.
  • We have not participated in Cosmos fundraiser.
  • We are not Tendermint/ICF employees.
  • We are not a mining pool, VC or exchange.
  • We were founded in Hong Kong, a forgotten city in the era of (blockchain) technology.

There’s one more point which makes us special: we have started a Cosmos ecosystem project Desmos. This provides us with one more view when we decide our vote.

We were and we are still a nobody. I guess this is why Cosmos is different. This is important for us to vote to present our attitude and hence we have voted “no” to Proposal 23. We also know the importance of respecting others’ decisions. We hope Atoms holders and validators will share more about how they think.

Second commercial time: Please join Desmos as validator :p We have provided a complete guidance. Cosmos ecosystem needs more validators like you to decentralize the future together!
