IPL 2022: Punjab Puts an end to the winning streak of Gujarat.
A crucial stage of the tournament
Punjab Kings established a dominating victory over the Titans to keep their hopes alive. The team led by Mayank Agarwal this season has shown potential but failed to generate momentum. It is also Punjab’s first consecutive win in the tournament so far.
After winning the toss, the Gujarat Titans elected to bat first in the game. It was a break from their routine chasing habit and an experiment for their upcoming matches. The franchise faced the lethal bowling attack of Punjab’s pacer and lost wickets in quick intervals.
Gujarat only managed to put together a score of 143 runs for the loss of eight wickets. The only positive from the batting was Sai Sudarshan, who made a fighting half-century for his team.
The bowlers of Punjab were on point and stuck to a perfect line and length. Kagiso Rabada gave a standout spell of four wickets and dismissed the backbone of the opposition. Economical overs from Livingstone and Rishi Dhawan also helped the team enormously.
The opening partnership of Punjab suffered a similar fate, and English Batsman Jonny Bairstow got out at a score of 1 run. Then the senior player Shikhar Dhawan formed a stand with Rajapaksa and took the game away from the Titans. The duo contributed 87 runs together and laid the foundation for Punjab’s comeback.
Shikhar Dhawan scored a half-century for his side and remained not out till the end of the game. On the other hand, Rajapaksa got dismissed at just 40 runs. The victory of the Punjab Kings was inevitable at this point.
The fireworks got started by Liam Livingstone, who smashed 30 runs off just ten balls. He struck two fours and three sixes in just six deliveries bowled by Mohammed Shami. The star all-rounder finished the game for Punjab with four overs left on their side.
With this victory, the Punjab Kings have escalated at the points table and made an advance in their run rate. The chances of them qualifying are still alive.
Kagiso Rabada received the man of the match for his four-wicket spell.
