For this edition of Devs vs. Players, Behfar and Alex talked about refactoring, how to ensure competitiveness for Forest Knight, the Play-to-Own model, discussions around earning $KNIGHT, and much more. So, let’s jump right to the Q&A section right away!

What happens with refactoring?

Refactoring is a crucial step in the Forest Knight design process. Although we’ve only delivered what looks like a fraction of it, plenty’s happening behind the scene. Moving things to the server side has massive implications before we move forward with creating a highly competitive game. So, what’s possible under this new system? Unique game design. We will release a gameplay roadmap in the future to discuss more.

For one, the animation system is different. Before, we didn’t have real-time animations happening. Things like visual triggers weren’t possible with the old system. Projectile effects are now a thing! The game looks smoother, and you can see things happening in real time. Refactoring isn’t just vital to create a beautiful game. We want to provide more accessibility for newer and upcoming players.

We appreciate all your effort. Thank you so much for all the feedback you continue to give us. Such a change would not have been possible otherwise, and we only have you — the players — to thank.

Will hero mana gain be balanced?

The mana calculations are final. On the current patch, Melee heroes now gain ten mana while Ranged heroes gain five. This issue, however, is part of the bigger picture we’re addressing. Moving forward, we want to inform everyone more about patch notes. In the past, we’ve tweaked small things behind the scene without telling players what they were. We’ve created a Discord channel called “Patch Notes” and will consistently update our players on every change we make!

When does the Season launch?

After the Halloween event. Why? Because NFT merging becomes available!

We can’t wait to see our players creating their own NFTs. It’s exciting and something we look forward to seeing. When? We plan to launch Season one by the end of November. There’s an upcoming announcement video, so stay tuned for that!

Are we counting pumpkins again for this event?

No, hahaha! Although this is not the most dynamic event we have in mind, we’re still proud of it being a step in the right direction. The new buff system has utility for all players, and the rewards are more readily available, not just the top fifty.

The 2022 Dreaded Night Halloween Event brings wooden stakes and silver bullets to the plate with more exciting and unique NFT rewards!

When do we get Livia skins?!

We have something already planned for Livia scheduled for Season 1.

Suggestion Section

Don’t show mana gained visually on monsters.

We talked about the visual changes for a competitive setting, but that’s a good point. More control over UI elements is something we have discussed in a more competitive landscape, but we’ll also discuss monsters with hopefully enough feedback.

Will staking come this year?

Yes, both staking and the DAO will be available this year. An exciting Q4 for everyone!

When will Forest Knight become available on iOS?

After we add some more guild features, we will begin working on iOS. Since we have about everything moved to the server side from refactoring, our development cycles are faster. Now is a great time to focus on cross-platform, and we should see Forest Knight on iOS soon.

Start the marketing program right now before the Season 1 launch. New players need exp to be able to compete.

We’re looking to finalize a big chunk of work for the game before we do a massive marketing campaign for it. Before we commit to a marketing campaign, we have to address a few more things, and we think this is a step in the right direction.

Are there any NFT rewards for casual players too?

We released the Asmorian system for newer players, which we think is a great addition. We’re going to rotate to events sooner rather than later. The arena chests have always been and will remain a great way to receive NFT rewards, but we’re considering options for rewarding casual play.

Can we obtain $KNIGHT by just playing?

For now, we’re mostly going with the “earning” aspect in the competition scene since a big chunk of it is in the Seasonal rewards, and we can. If we go with a passive system, the token economy won’t currently stack up. But as we add something like merge, we can consider more options.

For one, the marketplace system funnels a percentage of the funds back to the game. But for now, we’re going with the competitive version of the arena. The Forest Knight Season 1 rewards are 250,000 $KNIGHT plus the marketplace fees. That’s a significant reward that will make our knights happy.

Can we get an auto exchange system that transforms NFTs to $KNIGHT Tokens, putting it back in the pool?

We’d have to consider something like this regardless of its viability. The real question is, how would we fairly price the NFTs? Valuing these things is incredibly difficult, but it’s an idea since it could set up a baseline price for all NFTs regardless.

Is Renting NFTs still a thing?

We’re moving forward with renting since it makes sense. Allowing players to create value out of their ownership of an NFT, regardless if they can use it on their team composition, has no downsides.

Are there going to be any more uses for the underworld orbs?

We are adding more levels to the underworld since it’s a specific currency. The real question is, maybe we should consider adding more rewards.

An October Almost-Goodbye!

That’s all Behfar & Alex discussed in this month’s Devs vs. Players. Make sure you stay tuned for next month’s announcement. Join us, and let us know what you think. Once these systems are in place, the whole game will make more sense both in gameplay and economically. We’re glad to have everyone on board, supporting us, and providing the necessary feedback.
