Social Media is Real Media

Gone are the days when people logged on to social media just to chit-chat with friends, post foods, hang out with friends, party moments or watch cat videos.

It has moved beyond online, and it’s now a great platform for business, activism, politics, marketing, citizen journalism and income making venture for many people. Therefore, it is very important to be wary of the stuff you post out there.

Now, there is a thin line between social media and real life happenings. People have found wives, have sought help to help the needy, have reported conflicts, have recorded disaster signals, have gained employment and business deals, all from social media.

It has become very critical to building a solid online reputation as it can make or break you. People have overlooked the little details and has caused them a fortune. In the age of fake news, unrestricted sharing, and social media addiction, you might be blindsided as to where to draw the lines in the type of content you share.

Social media is for connecting; whether old pals or complete strangers — the benefits far outweigh the disadvantages.

Since Foresting is building the next generation of a social media network based on blockchain technology, these pointers should serve as a reminder to enable you to enjoy your social media life.

Things You Should Not Post on Social Media

  1. Corpse and Charred bodies
In the era of the first-to-post syndrome, many people have become so insensitive that, when they happen to be at accident scenes, they rather take photos of charred bodies and share on their timelines. You shouldn’t expose photos of corpses to social media. They are private and should be kept at that. Not everyone has the heart to watch such gory images. Don’t mess up somebody’s bright day with your insensitivities. Respect your audience on social media.
  2. Nude and Extremely Exposed Body parts
Social media is not the right place to share the nude photos you took for your significant other. Photos of your exposed body parts should remain private. It is inappropriate. Your account may be blacklisted or suspended if it is reported to be sharing explicit contents. Social media sites have comprehensive rules on such contents. Remember, the internet never forgets and this could come back to haunt you in future. Respect yourself
  3. Sensitive work-related conflicts (co-workers and boss)
It is an extremely bad idea to solicit for sympathy and unrelated opinions online when you have issues at work — either with your boss or workmates. Your vent on social media about your boss may cause an irreparable damage, not only to your current job but also to your online reputation and future opportunities. Comply with the rules in your company’s Non-disclosure agreement (NDA).
  4. Personal fights with your significant other
Your relationship issues is not a community project. When you constantly keep posting petty fights and trivialities about your relationship online, it exposes you to ridicule. Don’t discuss or share your quarrels on social media. Nobody really cares. People will feign concern, but eventually, you may look stupid. Resist such temptations.
  5. Bank account details | Crypto Wallet Password| Credit card details
There are a lot of hackers, scammers, heist and rogues lurking all over social media. Therefore, it is unwise to flaunt your wealth online. You don’t have to prove your possessions to anyone. Don’t post details of your debit and credit cards, nor your bank balance. Anyone who gets access to these digital identities can ruin your finances. Keep them to yourself.
  6. Extreme views on Race, Terrorism, Politics, Rape etc
Many people seem to lose their minds when trending issues on race, terrorism, politics or rape come up. It seems hateful comments, racial abuse and cyberbullying has become the order of the day on most online platforms. People have lost their minds and lack decorum in expressing their views. Social media gives you the freedom to share your life and connect with others, but it doesn’t mean you should have an opinion(s) on every subject. Be mindful of your convictions whenever you want to add your thoughts to certain topics. They could be used against you by state authorities and individuals.
