Learning the science and strategies of enhancing the market/business potential of innovative product ideas while mitigating risks through a process of customer development and market validation

In order for us to convert Engineering Graduates in to Graduate Innovation Engineers, who are equipped with the skills and competencies to become key contributors in developing Innovative product ideas into successful market-ready products in both Corporates and Startups, we are launching FORGE.FMPI is a Fellowship in Managing Product Innovations, from 2nd of January, 2019.

This program offers students in the final year of UG/PG degrees in fields of science, technology, engineering, design, or management, who wish to become super ready for a career in startups, in corporates as capable innovators, or to build a strong case for pursuing higher education in technology management, entrepreneurship etc.

WHY?

Opportunity to learn through first-hand experience the strategies, tools, and techniques involved in managing the process of accelerating innovative tech-enabled product ideas into commercially viable products and investment ready startups;

On successful completion of the 6 months program and achieving satisfactory performance, Fellows shall be given a Letter of Recommendation, Certificate of Fellowship, and a detailed Competencies Assessment Report.

WHO?

A 6 months program for 8th semester students of B.E and 4th semester students of MBA, who will work directly with product innovators, and early-stage tech startups, in assisting Team FORGE with effective execution of the Managed Innovation and Incubation Process.

Preference is given for candidate students that pass the following criteria:

  • Should have worked in developing innovative solutions to solve real-world problems by developing/applying technologies as tools;
  • Should showcase a track record of pursuing learning opportunities going beyond the standard academic curriculum;
  • Should possess high degree of passion for innovation as a powerful tool to achieve sustained social and economic development;
  • Should present a compelling statement of purpose to pursue the fellowship linked to career goals or higher education aspirations;

WHAT?

FORGE.FMPI Fellowship program shall be organised and offered in the form of a full-time Internship role over a 6 month period twice every year from January to June, and from July to December. The Fellows are expected to work in the standard office hours of FORGE from 9am to 6pm from Monday to Friday, and 9am to 2pm on Saturday for a minimum of 20 weeks to qualify for the Certificate of Fellowship.

FORGE.FMPI KRAs

During this duration, the Fellows shall be deputed as Associates in any or all of these key result areas in the ongoing Managed Innovation and Managed Incubation programs offered for real-world product innovators and tech startups:

  • Customer Discovery & Development
  • Design, Testing & Trials of Minimum Usable Prototypes (MUPs)
  • Documentation and Presentation for winning Grants/Sponsorship
  • Evaluation of progress & potential of Product Innovations
  • Market Study/Assessment, Competition Analysis in Technology/Product
  • Planning Product Innovation Budgets, setting and reviewing Milestones
  • Facilitating access to Early Adopters, Expert-Mentors, Vendors & Suppliers
  • Creating Product/Startup pitch presentations
  • Business Model design and Business Plan generation

#1 Fellows shall learn to apply the tools of Design Thinking for Problem Validation, Customer Discovery-Development & Co-creation, Value Proposition Design & Testing;

#2 Fellows shall learn to apply the principles of the Minimum Viable Business (MVB) framework developed by FORGE, in the practical context of supporting startup founders in executing winning strategies, setting and monitoring metrics, and in building solid proof for the growth potential of their startups;

#3 Fellows shall learn by working as associates under the guidance of the CEO of FORGE and other STARTegists (Coaches for Founders) the basics of product management, customer acquisition & sales, target market and revenue planning, pricing strategies & revenue model, business plan generation, startup pitch preparation and pitching, financial planning etc.
