Selene Sussarellu on running logistics operations in a fast-growing company
Selene Sussarellu is a logistics expert at the Formlabs EMEA HQ in Berlin. Selene joined the company in 2017 and has since been a key player in building up our logistics operations in EMEA. Now, she’s working on our most recent warehouse project and traveling the world, connecting suppliers with our production facilities and the manufacturing team. When Selene had a moment free from traveling, we sat down with her to learn more about what she does and what’s involved in working in logistics.
Tell us about yourself.
I’ve lived in Berlin for four years. Having lived in different countries in the past made me realize how truly fascinating is to go around the world to try to understand it through other people’s eyes and cultures. Living in different countries and traveling has made me feel I found the answer in what I do now.
Why did you join Formlabs?
Formlabs found me! I was invited to meet the team and see the office. I was curious about what Formlabs was doing and its business model. I enjoyed talking with my then-future colleagues and accepted the position they offered me! It was love at first sight.
What do you do at Formlabs?
In a nutshell, I manage the flow to deliver products to customers at the right time, right place, right quantity, and competitive price.
When people ask me what I do, I like to give this answer: Logistics is not just moving stuff from one place to another. Above all, it is connecting people with the products that enable them to work, live, play, improve, and enjoy their life as we do here at Formlabs.
In China, we opened a new warehouse to deliver better services to our JAPAC customers and partners. I lived there for almost three months, where I was constantly challenged to absorb knowledge about Chinese regulations and level of compliance we could reach to ship our products within and from this country.
While learning procedures at the new warehouse and translating how they could match our customer needs and requirements, I was an intermediary for shaping logistics operations with the team and warehouse.
I am excited about the project I am managing now. I can say that I found out that constant research of doing things better and finding new possibilities inspires me and keeps me active.
How would you describe your team in five words?
Responsible. Ingenious. Self-motivated. Problem-solvers. Masters of patience. That may be more than five words!
What are the top lessons you’ve learned at Formlabs?
If I want to improve something, it is important to speak up and let others know. I also learned that sometimes things take their own path. You need to adapt and re-evaluate your way of thinking and way of doing things, where ‘change’ is a synonym of ‘moving forward.’
It sounds simple, but I always need to make sure people get the right information at the right time, keep the right people involved, and balance everyone’s expectations.
What is your best memory at Formlabs?
I have great memories of our company trips, which we usually do twice a year. We’ve been to many different places including Spain, Czech Republic, Poland, and German locations. We always combine fun with building up our team spirit. This lets us share experiences and brings us closer.
