CEO’s trip to Oxford
“Last week I had the opportunity to return to my alma mater to attend a workshop on blockchain and crypto asset regulation at the University of Oxford’s Centre for Technology and Global Affairs. The event brought together leading players from academia, industry, and regulatory bodies in a convening forum designed to facilitate open discussion on some of the most pressing emerging matters surrounding security, policy, international collaboration, and the potential geopolitical consequences of blockchain adoption by citizens and nation-states alike.
“I was lucky enough to host representatives from Taiwan and the Philippines — amazingly, none of the members of the delegation had ever been to Oxford, so I made it a priority to carve some time outside of the event to introduce some of the famous landmarks of the city!
“A continually recurring theme in the regulatory space is around the question of harmonization. Are we moving towards deeper fragmentation and a regulatory ‘race to the bottom’ where smaller jurisdictions loosen requirements to attract new capital and businesses in hopes of competing with the traditional financial epicenters? Or will there be truly global standards applied by regulators alongside international synchronization akin to AML/KYC guidelines promoted by the Financial Action Task Force? Stay tuned to this space, it is shaping up to be a very interesting 2019 and beyond” -shared by Ryan Terribilini, co-founder and CEO of Formosa Financial.
Platform Progress Updates from Tech Team
“A big part of what we’ve done recently has been testing the core features of the platform in the staging environment while integrating with the Kovan testnet and the Bitcoin testnet. Through this process, we’ve cleaned up bugs while ensuring the platform will be reliable and convenient to use in future use”- Lorne Lantz, CTO of Formosa Financial.
Some features and changes the team has been working on:
- Creating framework and functionality to support to tokens that BitGo does not presently support
- Integrating more detailed server and web app analytics to provide greater visibility into the health of all different components of the platform and to aid us in maintaining a high level of reliability.
- Based on consultation from AWS, we are moving from AWS Elastic Beanstalk to AWS Fargate servers.
- Iterating on trading tech to improve speed and reliability with communication to exchanges.
- Building out notification system that broadcasts events to the user that occur on the platform, e.g. deposits/withdrawals
