Alexey comes from the north-eastern part of Russia - Yakutia, where due to lack of electricity in the small village, on long dark evenings he heard tales from the old people. As a child this fueled his imagination and started to portray them on paper. Later in the early 90s when he dropped out of university, he kickstarted his career by working in a few advertising agencies where he created banners and made a lot of artistic friends. The meaningful, interesting conversations pushed him to become a creator and make something. At 55, he is highly passionate and inspired to become a designer.

He begins his process for his work of art by studying and admiring works of various authors and making sketches. A standard painting takes him about 2 weeks in situations where his sketches are ready, which he creates while listening to good music and no distractions. Alexey is experienced in using various tools, from using pencil and paper to using his iMac and Wacom tablet. Since he came from a land where winter was a major season throughout the year, very few colors influenced his natural visual perception of the world. Hence, his works seem to reflect slightly muted shades and monochrome. He has been inspired by artists who paint the vinyl envelopes of 70s during the very dawn of classic rock but also one artist in particular, Gustave Dore.

Speaking of Alexey’s accomplishments, he has participated in various competitions where in one of them he won a first model iPod which was a luxurious gift during that time, which he enjoyed on his daughter’s birthday. Additionally, his works has been printed in many foreign catalogs, an achievement which is very close to his heart as he describes - “These books are pleasant to hold in your hands, and with age they become even more expensive, more expensive than any award.”

Being appreciated for his work and creativity that he possesses is his biggest dream, to work for another 20 years while putting his best and going an infinitely long way. He also believes that the wealthiest way to live life the fullest is the the passion to do what you love, pursue an occupation or a hobby one desires.

Alexey has always been interested and appreciative of new trends, such as the NFT market which FormosArt has been working towards consistently.
