I am on the faculty at the Stanford Graduate School of Business where I teach The Industrialist’s Dilemma, Systems Leadership, Strategies of Effective Product Management, Financial Management for Entrepreneurs, Businesses & Governments: Power and Engagement in the 21st Century World, and Strategic Management of Technology and Innovation. In these classes I have led research and written cases on companies including Google, Charles Schwab, Daimler, AB InBev, Box, Stripe, Target, AngelList, 23andMe, C3.ai, Majid Al Futtaim, Tableau, PayPal, SurveyMonkey, Medium, Autodesk, Minted, Zuora, Axel Springer, and Michelin, amongst others.

I am a General Partner at XSeed Capital and a Venture Partner at Piva. I sit on the Board of Directors of Luum and Avochato. I led investments in Sparta Science, Zooz (acquired by PayU of Naspers — NPN), Hive, Lex Machina (acquired by LexisNexis of the RELX Group — RELX), CirroSecure (acquired by Palo Alto Networks — PANW), The League, Nova, Trove, Teapot (acquired by Stripe), Brewbird, Pixlee and SIPX (acquired by ProQuest).

I am a Member of the Supervisory Board of TTTech Auto AG, and am Chairman of the Strategic Advisory Board for TTTech Computertechnik AG. I am a Member of the Industry Advisory Boards for HERE Technologies and Tulco, and am the Co-President Emeritus of Stanford Angels & Entrepreneurs. I was on the Board of SmartDrive Systems for 14 years (acquired by Omnitracs), and I have co-authored several articles and am a frequent contributor for the Harvard Business Review, California Management Review, The Wall Street Journal, Fortune, TechCrunch, VentureBeat and Forbes.

I was previously General Manager of the Video and Software Solutions division for GE Security, with annual revenues of $350 million. I was Executive Vice President of Pixim, Inc., a fabless semiconductor firm specializing in image sensors and processors (acquired by Sony). Before Pixim, I was Co-Founder & Chief Executive Officer of Weave Innovations Inc. (acquired by Kodak), a network services developer that invented the world’s first digital picture frame, and delivered photos and other digital media to PCs and internet / mobile devices.

I served in various management roles at Intel Corporation, including an executive position on their Corporate Business Development team, in which I invested capital in startups that were strategically aligned with Intel’s vision.

I am the co-inventor of four patents and served as lead researcher for Andy Grove’s best-selling book, Only the Paranoid Survive.

I hold a BA from UC Berkeley and an MBA from Stanford University.

I am married to Debbie Siegel and we have three children.
