We are absolutely thrilled to share that Fortmatic has integrated with Gitcoin! It is one of our most-anticipated integrations, and as someone who used to work at Docker, I’m very excited about its inspired use case for developers and the open-source community.

Gitcoin is one of a kind crowdfunding and freelance developer platform for open-source software projects. In fact, the Gitcoin+Fortmatic integration is actually completed via a Gitcoin Bounty!

With Fortmatic, developers on Gitcoin will be able to receive payouts without ever having to download browser extensions or write down their seed phrases! Existing Fortmatic users will also be able to easily fund projects listed on Gitcoin.

In early 2019, Gitcoin launched Gitcoin Grants, which is powered by the EIP 1337 standard. It’s a fast, easy, and secure way to provide recurring token contributions to the best open-source software maintainers in the community. Any contribution also has the opportunities to be amplified by the signal it provides to other (potentially, larger) funders on important projects.

There are many projects that aim to help with fighting COVID-19 currently listed via Gitcoin Grants (Explore Grants), and I would like to dedicate this article as a step-by-step guide on how to fund these projects using Fortmatic.

Step 1: Select a Grant Project

Select one of the cards representing a project
After card flips over, click on “Fund this Grant” button

Step 2: Fill Contribution Form

Input Amount and Token you’d like to contribute to this project and the Contribution Type, you can choose between either “One-Time” or “Recurring”. After that, you can configure the Gas Settings (transaction fee).
After the form is completed, you can click the “Contribute to Grant” button to continue.

Step 3: Confirm Transaction via Fortmatic

After clicking on the button, the Fortmatic widget modal will open and prompt you to log in, if you are not already. After that, you can hit the “Confirm” button to confirm funding the project.
After confirming, the transaction will be submitted to the blockchain and a progress bar will prompt you to wait until it’s completed.

Step 4: Done!

Voilá! You have now successfully funded a Gitcoin Grant project — all without having to deal with browser extensions, seed phrases, or extra downloads! You can now browse available Gitcoin Grants or learn more about it!

Fortmatic offers an SDK for developers to implement their own authentication and key management experience for decentralized applications built on the Ethereum blockchain. Users will no longer have to wrestle with browser extensions like MetaMask and securing their seed phrases.
