Geeking Out

When I’m not being irrational or knowledgeable I like to come here and geek out.

This is a guilty pleasure of mine. Loads of people write about geeky stuff, there’s hardly a need to keep churning it out. But I don’t care.

I am a geek. Let me explain how that’s different to being a nerd — (btw, this is my opinion not, like, established fact or anything).

Nerds like maths and computers and formulas.

Geeks like Star Trek, Star Wars, comics and that sort of thing.

Those who don’t understand me often say: “Ah, your life is like the Big Bang Theory”. It isn’t — it really really isn’t, and frankly, that’s quite insulting.

I am a picky geek.

I like Star Trek, but I am not a Trekkie — just have a secret crush on William Shatner — say nothing….

Star Wars was Ok. I’ve seen them all a few times, but they were released a bit too soon before my time for me to get nostalgic about them.

Comics, gaming, cartoons, anime — now your talking my language!

Here are some of my favourite geeky things:

The 1991 Infinity Gauntlet comic book series Thanos, a mad titan, tries to destroy the world to prove to Death that he loves her. The most fucked up love story in the world.

Harley Quinn — NOT the new film version from Suicide Squad with Jared Leto — what a bunch of crap that was — ruined Harley for ever — that’s a whole different post. But Harley Quinn, the Joker’s GF — she’s my spirit animal.

Batman — cus Batman

Deadpool — who doesn’t like Deadpool!

MCU —The Marvel Cinematic Universe — how fucking awesome it is to be alive!

Mario — because I was born in the 80s and SNES ruled my life.

Lego — both the brick building kind and the digital game kind.

Sunset Overdrive — because shooting exploding teddies from a gun makes me feel alive!

TTRPG — I’ve never played Dungeons and Dragons in my life but I have played some table top RP games and tonnes of geeky board games like Talisman and I loooovvveee them.

Rick and Morty, Community and Harmonquest — because Dan Harmon is a Genius.

Jim Sterling — because, well, thank God for Him.

Excel Saga — An excellent WTF kinda anime.

And a whole bunch of ‘geeky’ cartoons — Adventure Time, Steven Universe, Gravity Falls, Star vs the Forces of Evil, Teen Titans Go and Regular Show to name just a few.

There are a lot of things I love that fall into the geek category. If I keep listing them all we’ll both be here all day.

So, instead, I’ll be coming here once a week to geek out, for purely selfish reasons!
