F/S Remote Show #2: Highlights from 2027

This edition from F/S Alumni David Fono & Trevor Haldenby

Welcome to the 2[02]nd Episode of the Forward Slash Story Remote Show! This episode, we’ll be using a time machine to check in on some alumni and discover what they’ve made of themselves 10 years from now.

First a little background. From the F/S website, January 29th 2027:

Forward Slash Story is an Earth-annual residential lab for human and cyborg creatives who work on the fringes, and within the first 6 of 12 known dimensions where stories are confirmed to exist. It is co-founded and run by Christy Dena [cloud-based Human] and Lance Weiler [Human-machine hybrid]. Unlike many other labs, F/S focuses on developing the person [including bioaugmentations], not a project.
Sponsored by Columbia UniverCity’s Digital Storytelling Lab, for the last 5 years it has been run in the Marianas Undersea Colony; before that in Nosara, Costa Rica (with generous support from Harmony Hotel & Launch Facility); and before that in The Hamptons, then within the United States of America. The application-only event attracts creative minds and machine intelligences from around the world, with 20 participants chosen each year from multiple countries, artforms, and planets.

So what is the F/S Remote Show?

Each episode, a pair of F/S alumni team up and probe the lab network, gathering announcements and providing challenging prompts for completion that month. The results are published here for anyone to see! This [20]2nd episode we have an update on the success some of our alumni have been enjoying across the solar system. Enjoy!

Welcome to the F/S Remote Show, 2027 Edition!

Welcome… to 2027

The very first F/S labs were a branching point in the space-time continuum. Though none of us knew it at the time, our sharing of feelings and creative perspective was a catalyst for the creation of many parallel universes.

We’ve heard back from 3 of those universes — those created around the goals of Ken Eklund, Matthew Mills, and Christy Dena. Lance Weiler’s universe was beautiful and fascinating, but unfortunately it was destroyed by a wormhole implosion resulting from our very attempts to document it.

While the difficulties of coexisting with our peers in numerous partially overlapping dimensions would seem to pose difficulties to establishing shared experiences and insight, the latest discoveries in quantum consciousness and strategic foresight say otherwise. The more we learn about ourselves, the more we can understand humans as always having existed in this state of fragmented conjunction, inhabiting an infinite number of intersecting and diverging universes. Yes, the food is better in some universes than others. No, living in a universal fork of your own creation isn’t lonely… as these three stories show. By presenting stories so far-flung across the F/S metaverse, we hope the present makes a little more sense as well. Life in the multiverse is routinely chaotic.

In the time of despair or confusion many of us are experiencing, we hope that these stories of transformation and success give you hope. Even in futures altered by technology, storytelling remains the ultimate tool.

First up, we have an inspiring story from right here on Earth, which you may be familiar with due to the success of BBC AR’s award-winning documentary, Planet Earth IV, brought to you by Tesla Transport and Magic Leap.

Ken Eklund (@writerguy) was originally a transmedia storyteller and narrative architect, but in the late twenty-teens, he refocused his life’s goals on the development of new modes of cross-species play. From his home in Post-Oregon, Ken shares some of his experience:

Next, we are thrilled to present you with a delightful visualization from down under — or, since the Earth’s magnetic poles reversed following secret government tests in the South Pacific, “down-upper.”

The Avatar Formerly Known as Christy Dena (@christydena) is a founder of Forward Slash Story. Her accomplishments over the past decade are extensive, and this infographic gives a playful entry point to her story. Christy is famous for being the first Australian citizen to upload her consciousness entirely to the cloud, and now in 2027 she exists exclusively in the form of a popular Creative Cartoons Cartoons character designed by Marigold Bartlett.

Our final story in this episode of the Remote Show was transmitted from the inhospitable dunes of the Red Planet. This contribution comes to us from a universe where people communicate exclusively in Caps Lock, the one lasting contribution of the Trump Era.

Matthew Mills (@spacemanmills) was once a citizen of Post-New York, but in the early 2020’s he was among the First Hundred who bravely emigrated to Mars — a Coca Cola Colony. His interplanetary media empire Spacestation has all of the citizens of Earth “Seeing Red™”, and we are privileged to share his reflections on success in 2027:

MESSAGE BEGIN.
DATELINE: 1.26.27
LOCATION: MARS
SPACESTATION IS PROUD TO BE THE FIRST CONTENT CREATION COMPANY WITH A STUDIO OUTPOST ON PLANET MARS. FORWARD/STORY INTERGALACTIC AMBASSADOR, MATTHEW “SPACEMAN” MILLS LEADS THE CHARGE FOR THE COMPANY HE FOUNDED IN 2007.
IN COOPERATION WITH NASA, NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC, AND THE MALIA OBAMA FOUNDATION, SPACESTATION IS THE OFFICIAL EYES AND EARS OF A RAPT AUDIENCE BACK ON EARTH.
CONSUMPTION OF VIDEO CONTENT IS UP MORE THAN 3,000,000% OVER VIEWERSHIP JUST 10 YEARS AGO. IN JULY OF 2017, WHEN THEN PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP WAS ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH TREASON AND ESPIONAGE, MORE THAN 500-MILLION PEOPLE WATCHED LIVE AS HE WAS ESCORTED OUT OF THE WHITE HOUSE. THAT EVENT SPARKED A TREMENDOUS DEMAND FOR MORE CONTENT.
WITH EACH SUCCESSIVE ARREST OF THE TRUMP CABINET, HIS ENTIRE WHITE HOUSE STAFF, IMMEDIATE FAMILY AND EVERY PUBLIC OFFICIAL WHO SUPPORTED HIM, THE APPETITE OF THE AUDIENCE GREW EXPONENTIALLY. A RECORD 9 BILLION VIEWERS WATCHED THE TRUMP TREASON TRIAL (“T3” AS IT IS COLLOQUIALLY KNOWN). THIS MARKED A COMPLETE SHIFT FROM THE WRITTEN WORD TO VIDEO FOR THE VAST MAJORITY OF EARTHLINGS.
SPACESTATION HAS BEEN PIVOTAL IN THE CREATION OF A STAGGERING ARRAY OF CONTENT FOR MASS CONSUMPTION IN THE PAST DECADE. THE MONEY GENERATED BY ADVERTISING SALES AND SUBSCRIBER REVENUES WAS INVESTED INTO THE MARS VIDEO PROGRAM.
AS THE FULL COLONIZATION BEGINS, WITH NEW INHABITANTS ARRIVING ON MARS EVERY DAY, SPACESTATION IS TRULY PROUD TO BRING VIEWERS AN UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL VANTAGE POINT ON ALL THINGS RED PLANET.
STAY TUNED TO YOUR DEVICES FOR DAILY UPDATES AND A FULL SCHEDULE OF AVAILABLE CONTENT, ALL COMING WITHIN ONE PARSEC, OR 3.26 LIGHT YEARS.

That’s it for this episode of the Forward Slash Story Remote Show.
