Last week, we launched a new series of information graphics called “Seeing Inequity: Visualizing Racial Disparities in St. Louis.” The series will illustrate the racial disparities in outcomes relating to health, education, economics, and criminal justice.

This first infographic in the series, “To Live and Die in Saint Louis,” visualizes the life expectancy gap between Black and White citizens in St. Louis, and illustrates how dramatic the differences between neighboring communities can be.

Upcoming infographics will visualize other data sets that help explain this life expectancy gap — and provide a deeper understanding of what racial inequity looks like in our region.

How does this graphic make you feel? What questions does it raise for you? What kind of conversation does it spark amongst your friends? Co-workers? Family?
