How to make shift happen

by Lesley Bambridge, CMO Forward Fooding

When you’re in a big business you have established ways and means of getting things done.

Things are structured. There’s a process.

A right way and a wrong way. A way things have always been done.

Sometimes you find yourself in that tricky position where you’re doing something the old way, knowing that it may not work that well any more.

That’s when you need a new way.

For corporates, startups could be just that

When you’re a startup, it’s all a new way.

Often you don’t know the right way. Sometimes you’re making it up as you go along.

Trying new things. Experimenting.

There’s a goal in mind, but if things change that’s ok. Ultimately it’s just your way. It all starts with a goal, an idea, and you go on a journey that takes you there. Or somewhere close.

No matter what the size or shape of your business, if there’s one thing I can guarantee it is that there will be challenges. That is a given.

We all know through experience that there will be fears and unknowns, and we all know there will be a time when things ultimately need to change to move forwards.

There is bravery in admitting this and doing something about it. There is courage in embracing the unknown and giving it a go anyway.

Today we had the honour of hosting the Danone’s HQ Innovation team, who took a pioneering first step in embracing entrepreneurship and witnessed how working with startups can transform their approach to innovation, and ultimately their business.

They saw how tech can help you test, learn, validate, refine, build and grow. They saw how collaboration can propel you out of your comfort zone and get you thinking about your business in a whole new way.

Inspiring change is not something that can happen overnight, but the most important part is to take that first step, that’s exactly what the Danone team did today. Not only did we inspire them, but they inspired us as an example of corporate business taking that big, and often uncomfortable first step into the unknown to find a new way forward and a new way to grow.

In the words of the great Gary Vaynerchuk, “looking ahead is the only way to win the race.”

Well done Danone HQ for doing just that!
