Foster School of Business Study Abroad Photo Contest 2024
Global Business Center announces winners of the 2024 Foster Study Abroad Photo Contest
Written by: Theresa Maloney, Assistant Director, Global Business Center
Each year, the Global Business Center (GBC) at the UW Foster School of Business celebrates the transformative journeys of our students through the Foster Study Abroad Photo Contest. This contest not only highlights their enriching experiences but underscores the global perspective that is integral to a Foster education.
The GBC offers a diverse array of study abroad opportunities for both undergraduate and MBA students, ranging from Faculty-Led Programs with Foster Professors to university exchanges with premier business schools worldwide. These experiences are designed to equip our students with the skills and insights needed to thrive in an interconnected global economy.
GBC Study Abroad Year in Review
MBAs: In the 2023–2024 academic year, the GBC sent 79 MBA students on study abroad programs. These students traveled with Foster faculty to Australia, France, Italy, China, Japan, and India, as well as studying at exchange partner schools around the world.
Undergraduates: On the undergraduate side, Foster sent a record number of students abroad, with over 350 Foster majors studying in various countries during the 2023–2024 academic year. Impressively, based on current enrollments, over 50% of Foster majors study abroad at some point during their academic career.
Many of these opportunities are made possible through the generous support of our donors. Scholarships provided by the GBC have enabled countless students to pursue their dreams of studying abroad. We invite you to join us in supporting these transformative experiences by contributing to the GBC Study Abroad Scholarships.
As we showcase the stunning photos and stories from our 2024 contest participants, we hope to inspire more students to embark on their own global journeys and to highlight the profound impact study abroad has on students’ personal, academic, and professional development.

“A calm moment in an otherwise bustling city! I got a chance to wear traditional Korean clothing (hanbok | 한복) and get my hair done in a traditional style featuring a Korean ribbon called a daenggi (댕기 | traditionally used on maidens). This photo was taken at Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul, one of the grandest and most iconic locations in South Korea. Featuring sweeping tiled roofs, natural materials, and open courtyards, traditional Korean architecture is something you can’t miss during your time in Korea!” — Wendy Bui
