The world runs on open source software built and maintained by volunteers. The body of work given away as free software represents billions of dollars worth of donated man hours. This work ultimately comes from men and women who have families, need to eat, and pay rent or mortgages.

They build the high performance, robust systems that enable the internet infrastructure, and the frameworks that enable the web sites and applications we use daily. As well as the libraries of code that are leveraged by companies around the globe to innovate faster.

We all benefit immeasurably from open source code and yet few other than large tech corporations ever commit to putting money into supporting its development and maintenance.

Open Source projects and the people behind them depend on the support we can give them through donations.

In support of this, Fosterous is launching a platform for enabling the support of open source developers. The bedrock of a sustainable open source community is steady and reliable income, hence we are focused on dependable recurring donations that the developers can plan around. We have many ideas for what this will eventually look like in the future, but for now it is time to get started.

If you’re a developer working on open source software, consider joining Fosterous.com for the early beta and help shape the future of the open source community.
