Jim Carrey and his weird interview
New York Fashion Week Friday Night.I didn’t even knew(living in this town which is, possibly, the diametrical end to NY — How can I even know?) that such a fashion week existed until Jim made this strange interview which went viral of sorts and now, I’m writing about it.So,this is how it goes:
There is no me. There are just things happening
Here’s the thing. It’s not our world. We don’t matter. There’s the good news.
I don’t believe in personalities. I don’t believe that you exist. … I believe we’re a field of energy dancing for itself and I don’t care.
These are some of the responses he gave to the interviewer. Here’s the interview. It really was fun watching him acting like he was high or something. While some believe that he’s just trying to be a jerk and none of that is him being serious ,I beg to differ.Lot of what he said is in line with what he was saying in the recent days in many different occasions.I remember one occasion in which he went all spiritual ,similar to what he said in this interview. So,I wouldn’t dismiss this as him being bored or trying to make some controversy.
I’m not a part of it anymore. Dressing happens, doing hair happens, interviewing happens, but it happens without me, without the idea of a ‘me.’ You know what I’m saying? It’s a weird little semantic jump, and it’s not that far, but it’s a universe apart from where most people are.
Things are happening, and they’re going to happen whether I attach myself as an ego to it or not. There’s grooves that are cut pretty deep from my entire life. There’s still an energy that wants to be admired and wants to be clever, and there’s still an energy that wants to free people from concern, and now it goes further. I want to relate what this is to people so they can also glimpse the abyss! It sounds scary, but it’s not. Everything still happens.
This seems to me as some existential experiment themed around mind and consciousness and him being an actor makes this much more than just an age old nihilistic ,self conscious school of thought. It is simple. He’s probably telling us that as an actor ,He acted in many different roles and each different role might’ve added some attributes to the real person that he is or rather,no personality but just adaptation and refrain that makes up what he is.I truly don’t know what he’s trying to say ,or if he’s going through some kind of existential crisis given that his wife died last year and some other disturbing incidents that happened in his life ,or whatever — One sure thing is that he’s trying to make sense of whatever he’s going through and his upcoming role in a documentary might also be, partly, a reason for this non trivial interviews he’s been giving lately.
I don’t care much about celebrities personal life unless its Keanu, but a few months back ,I happened to watch Jim give a speech in some spiritual convention which was sounded personal and very non-hollywood .And now ,with this interview ,I felt like writing about him and now I’m convinced to keep a track on other events that will be happening just so to see where he’s heading.
