John catches a glimpse of the “Welcome, to Ingram, Texas” sign.

He looks over and notices his dad is beaming with pride.

Dad, I don’t understand why we can’t just go to Bank’s Meat Market and just buy ox tails.”

Lee chuckles, “You know how your mama loves her fresh oxtails braised in a rich gravy tender enough to fall off the bone.”

The thought of mama’s oxtails served on buttered rice makes John’s stomach growl.

Besides, you could stand to learn a lesson or two from the yaks.”

John laughs, “What can a shaggy old ox teach me?”

As Lee pulls out his captive bolt pistol and places it securely in his holster he and his son walk to the Texas Hunt Lodge.

That old ox is wiser than you think. Yaks have iron will. They know they have to roam a long way to find enough grass to eat.”

All this time John just assumed the ox just stood in one spot eating grass.

Dad, what you’re saying is you can’t survive just staying in one spot you have to venture out.”

John securely places his bow and arrow on his back.

Precisely, you must have an iron will to survive like the yak. The ox is smart enough to know that he can’t survive relying on the same

sustenance in the same spot. Eventually, the grass dries out so he has to search for greener pastures. Now let’s get our bags unpacked so we catch us an ox before it roams off. If we catch a big enough ox we can freeze it and last us through the winter.

Moral of the story:

“Begin, be bold, and venture to be wise.”
Horace
