The nation was not prepared for a Woman of Color (WOC) to be president. I followed Black women’s Instagram stories, following the results because I knew they would have insightful content to contribute. Also, I wanted to offer support. I shared my own insightful content—I discovered the affirmation you read as the subtitle.

I had not given much thought to one particular sentiment: if she had won, we would have needed to prepare for what was ahead because this system was designed to hold back Black people, particularly Black women.

Vice President Kamala Harris has been a symbol of hope for many, especially Black women. Although people have various reasons for their voting decisions, I firmly believe that our society would have greatly benefited from the leadership of a woman.
