Founders DAO — Our Manifesto
Initially, the founding fathers of the Internet protocol, and the Web1 in particular (static webpages, hypertext links), shared common values and horizons to build the cyberspace as a global platform for knowledge sharing, freedom, and social progress.
More recently, the emerging “sharing economy” and the Web2 (writer-viewer interactions, user-generated content, social networks) carried out the promise of rebuilding business models towards benefits’ sharing with users or customers, and the promise of bringing to life the usage innovations that would transform our lives and those of our children.
Where do we stand today regarding these Web1 / Web2 promises?
Since the 1950s, the private equity industry has been financing innovative organizations — now called startups — that have been shaping and accelerating our societies and values. From Apple to Amazon, from Microsoft to Google and Facebook / Meta, or from Airbnb to WeWork, they disrupted our personal and professional lives, and the way we perceive and interact with the world.
It is a flourishing industry, but unfortunately, it partly left behind some of the world’s greatest challenges: transparency, inclusion, acceleration of sustainable development goals (see United Nations’ 17 SDGs for real ESG impact), virtuous governance, redistribution of the value created by innovations.
Every day, the value created is more concentrated within overpowered digital oligopolies:
- Innovation is held back, nipped in the bud;
- Free speech is on the decline, every day and everywhere;
- The potential social progress became the likely enslavement of new generations by the technology, which became a centralized platform of ubiquitous control;
- And the regulation sometimes becomes the objective ally of the dominant model, consolidating it to the detriment of the masses (crypto-currencies, personal data, censorship, concentration of powers).
It is already too late?
Awareness is now generalized among the new generations, who no longer subscribe to a model they know is doomed, and increasingly among some public bodies / regulators / States as well.
Blockchain innovations make it possible to scale up decentralized initiatives. Artificial intelligence and collective intelligence together will enable the emergence of global, efficient and agile DAOs (Decentralized Autonomous Organization).
Every one, every day, can now take part in building the models that will replace the centralized platform monopoles.
In order to meet the challenges of our century, we — as world citizens — need a more efficient, transparent and ethical project finance industry. Like a reloaded tech venture capital for a better future.
Visionary pioneers of Decentralized Finance (DeFi), who quickly became rich, are reinvesting in the Web3 ecosystem for the long-term.
The paradigm shift used to be possible, it is now becoming crystal clear: innovations, use cases, user experience, governance, financing, value sharing. And this can have a tremendously positive impact on our environment, our societies, and our economies.
Founders DAO — Our Mission
We, the initiators of the Founders DAO ecosystem, indeed believe that the current and future leapfrogs of the Web3, as well as its hype, need some pragmatic, open and inspiring steps forward to reach its game-changing potential.
We also trust that enabling anyone to launch, structure and / or finance a DAO with its community is key to scale Web3 technologies and principles.
We commit ourselves to:
- Develop a global, inclusive and diverse citizens ecosystem of founders and builders of Web3 for impact;
- Build the financial, operational and governance infrastructures enabling the emergence of leading decentralized platforms in 2030;
- Guarantee the long-term alignment of stakeholders and sharing of value mainly benefiting their user community.
