Foundervine started in 2018 as a small group of founders that shared a passion for entrepreneurship and technology. This community has become an important place for founders to connect, learn, grow, and collaborate with each other.

As such we wanted to introduce you to members of our team so you can get to know who we are, what we do, and how we can help you on your journey.

So what’s your name and what’s your role at Foundervine?

Hey, my name is Stephen Chapendama & I’m a Technology Consultant at Foundervine. My focus is on all things tech, from supporting our own internal tech projects to supporting those in our community. Currently also looking after our new publication on Medium!

How long have you been with the team and what caused you to join?

I joined the team soon after attending #SU54:Africa in November 2018. To date, it’s still one of the best hackathons I’ve attended. Foundervine combines two of my passions, the accesibility of tech and passion for Africa and from this hackathon, I wanted to get involved and also do my part in helping Foundervine achieve its goals.

When you are not with Foundervine, what do you do?

I’m an Infrastructure Engineer (Platforms Lead) at Fujitsu UK working within their Advanced Threat Centre, based in Warrington, Cheshire. My role involves supporting cyber security projects such as SOAR (Security Orchestration, Automation & Response) and other DevSecOps projects. If you’re based in the North of England definitely reach out, always happy to discuss tech and answer any questions.

Any side hustles? What are the key things you want the Foundervine Community to know about you?

I enjoy writing so often I’m blogging on Medium (Stephen Chapendama) on topics such as entrepreneurship, data science, cyber security, and Africa. And occasionally friends invite me on podcasts:

Stephen & Stephanie Itimi discussed the dangers of oversharing on social media on Seipod: A podcast focused on empowering BAME women with the knowledge needed to be secure online.

What’s your favourite business?

Netflix! And not because of my blog post about how Netflix is changing our perception on cyber security. But because Netflix’s Engineering department are at the forefront of DevOps. They released one of their internal tools, Chaos Monkey a few years ago which definitely helped propel chaos engineering.

Chaos Engineering — experimenting on a software system in production to build confidence in the system’s capability withstand turbulent and unexpected conditions.

In other words, they enhanced how we build systems that can withstand anything… whilst also giving us shows like Mindhunters & Ozarks.

What’s your plan for the next 5 years?

Definitely continue growing with Foundervine and helping establish a hub in the North of England to support entrepreneurs.

We’re building the greatest and most diverse community of digitally enabled businesses globally. Our plan over the next five years is to continue to grow a community just for you — one that connects you to people, networks, and knowledge that you need to grow a successful venture. We look forward to you joining the Foundervine Community. Sign up for our newsletter here!
