Cloudious Hydrology9 Dry Herb Vaporizer: Review

For years, vapers have gone to extreme lengths in order to combine the convenience of a vape with the traditional smooth pull of glass-based water filtration. The Hydrology9 from Cloudious9 combines the two into the same high-tech and elegant package.

It looks like something the Umbrella Corporation designed to get you high. Come on, like you don’t remember that scene?

The Hydrology9 is an elegant contraption. It drives looks of bewilderment from your friends when you pull it out, and surprisingly, it’s incredibly user friendly to load and go. Flower goes in the bottom, water goes (very slowly) in the unscrewed top, and you’re ready to go. Three clicks of the action button, and there’s no place like home.

The Hydrology9 has a dual-action bottom screw-cap that allows you to not only load and lock your material in place, but a second screw mechanism nestled inside that allows you to twist and stir the oven to ensure you’re getting maximum freshness with every pull, without having to open the lid.

Pulling is incredibly easy, and the Hydrology9 produces smooth and consistent clouds from the start of a session through to the very end. Just like a Coca Cola: it’s always better out of glass. You run into a bit of an issue with the water chamber if you’ve overfilled it, as liquid can sometimes splash up through the cap, but that’s more a matter of you keeping your fill to around 50% of the chamber.

Once you’re done with a session, you’ll run into a longer cleaning and maintenance procedure than you’re used to if you own another portable vape, but there’s nothing too taxing. Manufacturer, Cloudious, understood that some might be put off by extra maintenance on a larger, more complex device, and broke down the maintenance procedures into short-term and medium-term upkeep procedures. That means you don’t always have to run the full maintenance gauntlet every time you use it. I say only this about cleaning the device: make sure you’re always emptying the water after a session: vape water somehow smells worse than bong water.

The Hydrology9 is even incredible at rest, with the addition of a brown leather tube case from Cloudious that makes it look like a fine telescope. Right now it has pride of place on my bookshelf, and it’s a fine little trinket.

It’s definitely more portable and discreet than the glass you’re pulling from now, but because you’ve got to fill it, keep it upright and watch you don’t smash the (actually quite strong) glass, it’s not like you’re carrying a more convenient PAX 3 or Storz & Bickel Crafty around. It’s still portable enough, however, that you can put it into a messenger bag and take it to your friend’s place for some show and tell.

Overall, the Hydrology9 is an unreal device. It’s more than just a vape. It’s more than just a smart bong. It’s the intelligent fusion of design and technology to take glass decades into the future. It’s like someone rebuilt a classic car icon with modern technology: an instant classic.
